I currently have the same problem It quite braves to use White on the floor ( I know you said grey) but we are toying with as it works well with the grey bath we have chosen Have a think about swapping it around to have black on the floor which works great with a contrasting colour bath (white) Also think about contrasting colour for taps (black taps against white or grey tiles)

I think it would depend on the layout of the room and position of door and window and also possibly how bold or dark the feature tiles are. Do you have a photo or a plan?

Is that pic your actual place , or off a brochure ? The door is beautiful , the glass is great , I can't work out if the steps are polished concrete or marble , but basically it all looks classy ! And then that stacked stone looks like someone has run a picture through a black-and-white photocopier , and glued it on -- it looks fake ! Just a hint -- stacked stone doesn't have uniform crisp sharp corners -- and the grout lines should follow around corners too haha . Any sort of tiling may look as bad , or maybe better ; likewise powdercoated aluminium panels will look corporate ( not a good thing on a house IMO ) . If it was me , I wouldn't care if the 'allowance' was $60 -- I'd happily spend $6000 to go genuine ! It will make the whole place look better -- you only have 1 chance to make a first impression ! BTW -- is that $60 in total , or $60 a square metre -- neither will go far ? If budget really is that tight , how about just a plain render . Even thats probably more than $60 ! If thats all you can afford , so be it . But either at build time , or in future , if you have the $$$ , you could add 5 or 6 vertical 40mm x 40mm battens across the front of the column , same style and tone as the door , the full height ( maybe $600 ? ) and obviously referencing the door .

Hi Sarah, I’d be a bit wary of zellige tiles in a such a wet area as they require sealing even for everyday use, so I’d be concerned about the long term waterproofing prospects. There are however modern tiles that have that look. What is considered trendy, is very much in one’s own eye. Any type of feature tile is going to have something of a trendy factor. Which is why, if YOU like them, don’t shy away from any particular tile. The only consideration should be , if you are going to tire of them yourself or if you’re planning to sell soon, and in that case anything outside the box is a gamble. On to your question though. Have you considered encaustic tiles? Have you tried Classic Ceramics in Port Melbourne, San Marco in Bundoora or Classic Tile Galleria, Moonee Ponds, all specialising in European tiles? I think the Europeans and South Americans are more adventurous with colour, which is why I mentioned them. Or perhaps, green marble or granite cut to size? And, there are also small businesses like jenoliart.com.au who make individual tiles to your specifications. I haven’t used their services btw but knew of a local, so know that it’s an option. Just some ideas. Good luck, will be interested to see your final choice
