We painted our wooden floors white !!
Comments (40)Hi Cathy, yes floors look just as good.... we did them in December 2013. When floors were brown.. wood coloured they showed a bit of wear (dog scratches), on the white you don't see the scratches... the white floors still look fresh... the beauty of the painted floors is that if you get heavy wear in certain areas, you can just repaint the floor!!! (ie no sanding... this is a big deal). If you decide to go ahead, I would love to see your before and after photos. Thanks. Following is how my husband did the floors: We are in Sydney, Australia... unsure if the following are international brands? My husband used Feast & Watson Floor Paint in White Satin (water based) and then 2 coats of Intergrain clear finish (also water based... so with sunlight the floors won't yellow if you use water based)...See MoreDilemma protecting our weathered patio
Comments (16)I have been deep cleaning and oiling my deck for the past 10 years after we installed new wood decking. Twice a year I deep clean the wood deck using a hot sodium perchloride (cheapest Oxybleach from Woolies) wash - 1 cup to 5 L very hot water to activate. Add the hot water to the rectangluar bucket first, then add the oxybleach and stir to dissolve completely for 3 mins. I wear my wellies to apply a generous application of oxybleach with a soft broom to the entire wood deck, then come back and scrub the wood with a stiff bristle broom. This will melt away all the grim and really deep clean the wood. Then hose off or gernie off all the suds and grim. Leave to dry for 48 hours before oiling the deck. I oiled once a year for the first 2 years and now the wood is well saturated I only oil every 2 years. To oil and preserve the wood I use Cutek CD50 ( a good selection of tint colours are available if you want to stain the wood to your preferred colour). My deck is still like new after 10 years. This is a brilliant cheap method of deep cleaning and preserving wood decks. Good luck!...See MoreHelp with benchtop colour choice for all white kitchen
Comments (17)Bluemeeru, yes sink is on left next to dishwasher, which is next to the fridge. I never wanted a sink on the island for the same reason. Water splashes and there will always be something drying on the island. I like the option of having a totally clear island if I need it. Yes, I was worried the sink was too far from the cooktop but it works well for me. I did consider putting a narrow sink near the cooktop just in case I needed water during cooking but left it out in the end. The distance from my sink to the edge of the island is 1.5m. Dishes get taken out of the dishwasher and are put away in the drawers in the island nearest to dishwasher side, as my island is 3m wide. From there it is easy to take them out over the island to the dining table or serve the kids who sit on the island for breakfast. It’s 3.8m from sink to centre of cooktop, which could be considered quite far. I suppose I have gotten used the distance....See MoreBlack or white?
Comments (33)Yes time for some updates. I painted the table white but had the chairs finished in matt black with a gorgeous velvet fabric from designers guild. It cost a small fortune but was worth it. I've also updated the gallery wall so it's more cohesive and added some new living room furnishings. I'm so happy with the outcome....See More- 8 years ago
