I actually really like the festoon lights! Fairy lights remind me too much of Christmas to have as an all year round feature.

If you are in New Zealand, I have often found great lights (and a big range) at Lighting Plus. Where are they to be attached? I too was thinking lanterns suit a verandah but are those log walls? Even if the lanterns can be installed I'm not sure they'd look right? So I'm thinking maybe bunkers.
