Sometimes on Houzz I just wonder if the amount of timber some architects use is a bit OTT.

having lived in a home with beautiful Tasmanian Oak ceilings, feature walls and cabinets for many years i can appreciate the gorgeous look of timber BUT over the years the timber coatings darken and eventually it became dark oppressive and, rather than painting them to achieve a fresh new Hamptons look we couldn't do it and sold the house instead!! Our new home will have some timber but much more restrained and in smaller areas

I absolutely agree! While I love timber, the look in the pic above doesn't appeal to me at all. Our last house had timber panelling on heaps of the walls, and that was too much for me - but we didn't have a timber kitchen, timber floors, timber everything else as well!

I think it looks fantastic, growing up in a house with many timber features I loved the grains and differences of timber from a young age. I'd love that place. But a negative for some is it can really have a masculine underlining tone. Love the timber in that pic.

Are we just talking wall tiles here? What are you looking at for floor tiles? I'm thinking in terms of mixing gloss and matte in both rooms to tie them together and keep your customer happy but giving each bathroom its own character without being too different ................ if that makes sense.

Hi Julia, as a mum to 2 little ones and 3 fur babies (2 who meow and 1 who woofs), I think you can have the best of both worlds.... up high looks stylish, down low is kid friendly and even lower is pet heaven.... I like to think we are living in 'levels' at this point in time lol. And you know.... they are only little for a little while and mess or 'kid stuff' is a part of life. Although I do admit to wishing everyone would get their hands and paws off my christmas tree .... but someone is always touching it, playing with it or thinking about touching it or playing with it haha - might be time a tree for me and a tree for them lol - it's all about compromise, levels and zones - their rooms are a toy haven.... whereas the lounge room/kitchen/dining spaces are toy free. One day, they'll be all grown up and I'll probably be the one knocking my own fine china off the buffet :) Yay - go me!

My other thought was to move the protea print across to above console but not sure how it would look next to other print. Also within the dining family room I already have 2 prints. I did try a small mirror but when the console is positioned up against the end wall it mainly reflects kitchen.

This one is really a matter of personal taste, I think. I actually really like that look, though I'd be pretty uncomfortable if the wood were any darker. I'd probably want to abandon most of my wood furniture, though...

Depends on taste. Timber is a great insulator, and if a sustainable variety, a renewable resource. I would have gone lighter, myself.

Yes this does look like an overkill on wood although does create that warmth looking out from the kitchen space.

Too much timber I remember great builder telling me you can have too much and got to that point in my open plan area so had to stop - got glossy black entertainment unit instead of wooden surface like everything else cept kitchen ceasarstone yum

Wood is amazing, natural and can be blended with any other colours. Stick with wood and you can't go wrong.
