Help! Piano won't fit in new house.
Can anyone help!
On our paper plans our piano was going to fit perfectly in the hall nook near the front door. Now the walls are up and we are nearly done we have found the piano sticks out way too far into the hallway. About 30cm into the hallway, and then when you open the front door it doesn't leave much room to manouver around it coming inside. :-(
It is an upright piano and dimensions are 67cm (at widest point - the keys) x 145cm long.
Looking from the front door back, piano was going to go on the left.
We can fit it in the garage or the games room for the time being but hubby wanted other things in his games room (and I dont want any risk of drinks getting spilt on it) and we wanted our younger boys drum set in the garage.
This piano is sentimental to me so I am not going to be getting rid of it.
We can try squeeze it in the lounge room, but room is already tight there and hubby isn't too keen.
This is our dining, and lounge area. Dining table in front of sliding door, with a 2 and 3 seater going in the lounge room, bar stools at the island bench and TV will be hung on the left hand wall between the windows. I was thinking perhaps piano under aircon??

I've just about run out of ideas and now I am sad that I wasn't on the ball enough to fix this issue before it was too late.

Comments (32). Its just way too much timber! So the floor should stay, because its harder to change. Start by definitely at least pull out the part of the kitchen with the weird enclosed fridge space. that really cramps the room. Then pull of and replace the cabinet doors and the laminate bench top. pick some amazing tiles and have your husband work his magic! Paint the walls a nice colour to really make the space look more vibrant. Get rid of those horrible blinds completely! We are doing out kitchen up and we don't have much money or skills or access to tradespersons anyway. So we are keeping it to a minimum. Do it little by little. Comments (9)Hi Guys thank you so much for your input. Yes LouieT, meals is west and dining is north. We are in Perth with scorching late afternoon sun. Julienewans, we were thinking along similar lines: changing bed 3 into laundry, use part laundry for a butlers pantry. This opens up lounge, dining and part laundry for the kitchen and living area with meals. it also gives access to both north and south side of the house. The house is on a slab and games was added later. We also consider changing meals and kitchen to a guest with bathroom / powder room. This will have an outside entrance to be accessed from the to-be pool on the northern side. New entrance between current meals and family - this allows for a wider entrance. Keeping family as a study/library / reading area (taking out the bar). Comments (6)I would ask the builder about the best solution for the windows in the new ens and laundry as it will depend on the wall structure and waterproofing requirements but it should be more cost effective to install two windows side by side in the old laundry window opening as the windows would need to be ready to install as the old Window is removed and new dividing walls installed ..and, as i would be reluctant to remove the external laundry door, i suggest a tall storage cabinet against the bathroom wall with the ironing board on the external wall and if you decide to lose the door add extra storage in front of the door...See More

Oskuee - actually, you may think that I am the selfish one. Out of the whole house my hubby only got the games and theatre to do what he wanted, the rest of the place was mine :-)
It would be a glorious concert in the theatre! hah! There is no room left though as where the murphy bed is, is now the built in entertainment cupboards, and the murphy bed has been switched to the front wall.
In the games room, we have a pool table, Neo Geo gaming machine, a bar fridge and some other manly type things. It COULD go in here, yes, and we might go this way, but I would prefer elsewhere (not the garage)
SueM it is too long (145cm) to fit between the dining and kitchen/stairs.
Vy, there is no retreat upstairs, and it is too big for the landing.
Yeah, at this stage, it is likely to go in the games (to the left on the wall behind study) or under the aircon in the lounge.
I had this really awesome idea to frame some of my grandmothers piano music, songs that were special to her and I, and have them as artwork on the wall behind the piano. This would have been so awesome near the front door. Sigh, hopefully it will still look nice wherever the piano ends up going.
