Reason I asked if you are replacing any appliances is because, if so, a new oven could be installed in cabinet below the cooktop. Do you know if the brick wall where oven currently is located can be removed completely? Is that your plan? If so, this would allow options for additional storage and benchspace. where is your pantry located? Is it adjacent to oven? Good idea to have new island further out to increase kitchen space. Does that mean you would also extend the bench (where sink is located) outward?

I love the drama of the brick wall and it is a major design feature of the house... however, there is a LOT of exposed brick with the fireplace surround also being exposed and you have mentioned you dont like the colour. Have you thought about covering up the other walls rather than this one, to tone down the brick work? I just wonder if you hate the amount of brick and you are taking it out on this wall because that's where it is concentrated while overlooking the rest of the house? Just food for thought... more food for thought. BTW I love the idea of hanging plants (though watering them might be a pain), I love the idea of a dramatic feature pendant and I also love the idea of the rug, all will soften or harmonise the drama. www.billyhoostudio.com

We eventually decided on Dulux White Duck for our exterior, with the garage door in Basalt, like the guttering. I’m not a huge fan of shutters, but they seem to make the windows bigger, so I left them, as the awning fittings, which will be reused with different fabric, we’re done originally to accomodate the shutters. We’ll box in the hideous columns, which are (far too) white, and then will repaint them. I’m now trying to choose exterior lights. I don’t like coach lights, like the existing lights, but don’t want to get something too modern, which would suit the house, even though I like modern fittings better. So...white? black? Stick to a more modern style of coach light? I’d really appreciate any ideas. Thanks
