Which way should bedroom door open?

I would like some help and opinons on deciding how the door into Bed 3 should open. Should it open to the left, as it does now, or open to the right? Is one better than the other? Perhaps it should move from its current location towards the WIR? At the moment, the corner nook between the door and WIR could be used for something e.g. chest of drawers

Consider a cavity slider.

If it opened to the left you would have to install a door stop either to the bottom of door or to the wall that juts out into the room (linen). Also, you might consider where you will place a bed, because some don't like the door opening up so they are on view. If the bed is placed on the exterior wall, there seems no way to avoid this. If the bed is placed on the interior wall, then the door could open on the left. Did you have ant particular concern with it opening as in sketch?

When I was commenting on how door swings open, I was imagining being inside the room, NOT in hallway.

We're building 4x3.5 Two with ensuite and the others with a jack and Jill. Life has changed unfortunately and now everyone in the household works, kids stay at home longer and ageing parents sometimes move in for care. I would build a new floor to ceiling robe where the existing robe is, extending it across to the door frame and building storage across the top of the doorway to the same depth 600 as the robe, this will give great hanging space and privacy from the living room. I would then add draws approx 450 deep facing the bed, this will give more floor space, I would have a full height wall on the entrance side of the drawers to give privacy to this space which could have a TV or shelves or artwork above these drawers. By using drawers and not full height robes it will make the bedroom feel bigger while adding extra storage. cheers

my suggestion has an ens and wiw and uses the old bedroom door for a linen cupboard, although the toilet could be placed at either end to be closer to the original sewerage, this arrangement allows for more privacy for the toilet, more standing room near the shower, wall space for a towel rail and room in teh wiw for a chest of drawers..the vanity is over 2m long with cabinet under the (one or twin) sinks and open shelves next to the toilet for towels .. and, while you're adding the new ens, it would be worthwhile to plan the new access to the kitchen and new laundry

Thanks annb1997. Yes, my concern was by opening to the left from the hallway, the bed is in view when entering into the room. The bed will be on the interior wall. But doing it this way, when one steps into the room, it would feel more spacious compared to changing the door to open to the right from the hallway.

A cavity slider is an excellent solution but otherwise I will suggest sticking with the current opening. I think changing it will result in a huge loss of space in the room and it will go against the flow of the other doors within the room.

Cavity slider is an idea, but in our current home, my son's bedroom has a regular door and my daughter's a cavity slider. She is a young adult and disliked the idea of her door not providing as much privacy (plus the little dogs and cats could nose it open) and asked if we could install a thumb lock door pull so she could lock it...which we did.

Cavity slider would be perfect and create space, I'd make the wardrobe and ensuite doors cavity sliders too!!!!
