Comments (9)Thanks for your advice, you have some great points. I agree, we don't want to go crazy at the start - just do the bits that we need to make the house safe/comfortable to live in (eg fix electrical, put in heating and cooling) plus do the basics to make it look "nice" inside (paint walls, polish floorboards and new light fittings like you suggested). I'm sure this will end up costing quite a bit anyway so this might be it for now! We also found today a few hidden surprises that will require attention asap, like asbestos vinyl in between the carpet and floorboards unfortunately and the fact that there used to be chimney hearths in the bedrooms that they have just replaced with cheap pine boards (not matching the rest of the boards). Having a nice garden design will also make a huge difference I think. You are right, there is lots of concrete and a bit of grass - very different from what we are used to (coming from an established garden) so I'm longing for some trees there already!...See MoreHow to modernise our 80s house facade + Ideas of current design ideas

Comments (11)Love the black/charcoal look as accent colour (with brown undertone to complement bricks). if you could sand back some of the wood and stain it, maybe paint some of it black/charcoal to break it up would look amazing. If the wood does not stand up to sanding (no grain or not made for raw wood look) then you could add some panels to break it up/add texture not too much black - weathertex is a material I've used recently and can highly recommend....See MoreIdeas for updating a 80’s house facade
Comments (4)the two doors are confusing and the glass in the laundry door is darker and makes it more obvious in the photo .. consider a a dramatic new colour for the front door and a small gable roof to create a definite entry porch with extra posts and short entry path with symmetrical planting ...the new gable could be added when you're ready to renew the roof and a light coloured roof with dark trim and a bright new front door eg Colorbond Surfmist with Basalt gutters, eaves and posts with a bright blue door?...See MoreRita
