Japan black the stairs and paint all white except for the gal angle. Actually I cheated with the Japan black. I made a black stain from water based black interior paint. 50/50 water and paint. Just like the karate kid - I wiped on and wiped off :) I used one rag to wipe the stain on and another to immediately wipe it off. I then I painted on 5 coats of modified tung oil. They look sensational. Pictures dont do my stairs any justice at all. Part way through staining Stained: Painted white: With hand rails: Ignore the landings. They are about to stained and tung oiled very shortly

Fashion is only dated if you can remember when it was new so, for me diagonal looks very 70's but, enough time passes and a look becomes vintage or classic so it's really a matter of personal taste. The difference will be that the new decking products look so much better, laste longer and are easier to maintain. From the little i can see of your house a more formal style would be my choice and decking laid at right angles to the house allows for the easier extending with more decking? if/when you replace the old bricks on this side of the pillar

Hi Narella, most manufacturers of induction cooktops such as say Miele and Smeg make their 600mm wide units around 500mm to 505mm deep (front to back) where these fit comfortably into a 600mm deep cabinet, while still allowing for all the clearances, overhangs and venting required. You may like to check with your cabinet maker but as far as I am aware NEFF make their induction cooktops much deeper; making these 546mm deep instead of 500mm. This means that your cabinets also need to be deeper than the "normal" once all the required clearances are taken into account. I am not sure what you mean when you say this will not work with the rest of your cabinets. If you are positioning your NEFF cooktop above your underbench oven as it is shown in your original photo; then it appears that your cabinet maker has again done the right thing and has actually made all your adjacent cabinets the same depth; whereby preserving these clean modernist lines of your kitchen. I’m assuming you have a staircase because it’s a multi story house. I wouldn’t be cutting or moving any bracing that might be supporting some of the load of the house without professional advice. Builders don’t tend to add bits that aren’t needed for some purpose. Can you post a pic?
