Any decorating ideas for a home with bluestone interior walls
Comments (29)If this was my place, I'd definitely install a skylight (even just a DIY solatube which someone suggested), then depending on budget I'd make these changes:- - replace floors with light colour timber floorboards since they never date - replace furniture with light colour furniture in both lounge and kitchen - paint kitchen and hutch white - add some plants in white pots - go for large light coloured wall art - replace curtains with roller blinds to maximise light I love the bluestone - it will look amazing when you've added some lighter colours to the room!...See MoreHelp! Comments (11)The right coffee table, throw and wall art are not going to be enough to disguise the fact that you have downsized from a much larger home with your large, dark, formal furniture that dominates a compact room. Have you considered moving pieces to other rooms, or selling it, and buying clean-lined, contemporary style furniture off eBay? This style will fit the proportions of your room, and make it easier to live with your dust free strategy. The beauty of second-hand furniture is that when you can afford to upgrade you can sell it again on eBay. and recover your costs. Never paint perfectly good pieces of timber furniture as it will devalue the pieces. Sell them as is, somebody will cherish them as they are. I would keep the couch, decide on the tone of your new timber floor, and use these two elements to decide on the rest of your colour scheme. Your celing fan/light is also a distraction, so replace with something sleek and contemporary that is not such a feature. Your room layout is problemmatic with the number of doors coming into the room, but it is hard to suggest a better stategy without a floorplan. Comments (13)I'll get it out of the way before I even start -- I like colour ! So personally I'd repaint that wall in a grape or similar -- that tone there is too safe for me . BUT even ignoring that , I suspect my advice would work with either the existing colour , or 'my' choice . I'd shift the buffet right , have a tall plant in a maybe pinky/mauvy glazed pot ( or dimpled white pot or similar if playing safe ) between the buffet and the window . I can't quite see , but I assume there is a light switch and temp control or similar on the wall -- a well-chosen pot plant won't hide that totally ,but it will take the focus off , and of course add some life ! I'd do a large artwork on the wall -- knifed on colours , lots of purple and mauve and royal blue and white and butter and a bit of red and yellow and brown -- you get the idea ! The buffet itself I'd put a bright red mat on ( although most safe people may opt for burgundy haha ) -- reasonably large . With a dimpled white vase and 'stalks' -- a dried arrangement ; a dimpled white lamp on the left side , maybe that mauvey/pinky shade on the shade haha . And how about a large burgundy shaggy rug in the centre of the space ? Or a smaller one by the door if you feel that would overdo it ?...See MoreSideboard decor ideas
Comments (6)I think the tv cabinet ties in well with the black handles & legs of the new sideboard so would keep it. A black edged mirror with the black frame picture you have already will work well. The black and wood round side table also goes with your overall scheme- things are coming together! That’s probably enough ‘mascara’ - Consider pulling some colours from the rug for another artwork, vase etc for sideboard- even if not in the same room as the rug your home will feel considered and have a sense of flow from one place to another. Looking forward to seeing how it evolves....See MoreBelinda
