What is the worst mistake you could make when interior designing?
Comments (14)Agree ashilleong. I watched something on Steve jobs last night, and it was said that most of his iconic ideas were nit his own, not invented by him, rather innovated by him. Thie client brief should be a free platform of invention from the client, and why wouldn't you take it, some could be gems waiting for a good designer to create great innovation of them. Together the process will be collaborative, and force both parties to explore outside the scope of their own ideas. I think also, often the most successful design comes out of constraint. Things you have to work around become unique and interesting. Take the advice, but keep in mind the final result is yours conceptually, and you need to translate their ideas into a correct response to that brief. Together you will create something both will be proud of. A happy client, makes you a popular designer, so don't rate yourself higher in the process....See MoreWhat's the worst thing a guest has done in your home?
Comments (86)my MIL is one one those that won't fetch anything for herself ..she expects you to get up when she gets up 5-6am and fetch her breakfast..and it's no good offering would you like some toast as she'd be like oh no I'm fine.. you need to cook breakfast and plop it in front of her.. she wouldn't let me wash her clothes so showed her how to use the machine..she hand washes them and pop them on the line right on top of my rack of dried clothes..she took my clothes down so she had room to hang hers out..and of course her dripped on mine ..?? and if she dries the dishes she must do it intentionally to annoy me as it takes me ages to find bits and pieces to my rice cooker..?? amongst other things that happened .. my MIL is hated by all of his family..because she's the second wife..his biological mum is the best MIL you can have she's kind and loving not like this one..calculating ..stabs you behind your back and the list goes on.. my husband must takes after his mum..he's kind and caring.. thank goodness she's overseas now..only lose him to get twice a year for 10 days each.....See Moreworst living room ever - how can we make this work?
Comments (23)Awesome. Thanks guys. Yep - in QLD and is a very breezy home so I’m not too worried about air flow. If I get smaller furniture it would be so I could easily clean underneath and retrieve lost LEGO;) I fear that I’ve already got TV too high but if I move it I will definitely go lower - have a sore neck. And although is living room it is mostly used for TV. Kids have toy room for playing and many of our conversations happen on our dining table or outside areas. So comfort is a large consideration. Thanks everyone for your suggestions so far!...See MoreEnsuite and WIR Design Dilemma
Comments (23)for ventilation into the bedroom isn't there a wide highlight window above the bed already?? you only need an air gap on both sides for cross ventilation as there's the window above the bed and two doors into the bedroom (and the windows in the wiw and ens) as well as the balcony doors and you think you need an extra door? if you look closely at the plans you will see that the bedroom door opens without blocking the entry to the wiw which leaves about 2300 for the TV wall (don't forget the framing) and if you subtract an extra door you lose about 90cms off the tv wall as well as reducing the storage walls in Kate's plan by about 2m (ie the L shape corner of the wiw) and/or lose a second vanity and add a second doorway into the ens in my design and it doesn't function better and the balcony door should be narrower to allow for curtains to be pulled back to at least one or both sides and the opening to the balcony door is also on the wrong end so curtains will be bunched up against the TV when the curtains are open but assume you wanted the doors to be that wide for a reason?? but, long after we've become used to the look of a space the way it functions will either please or drive you crazy and we all wonder if we should have done it differently.....See More- 6 years ago
