Don't know your budget but if it was me I would get some big pots or long - thin flower beds and plant some golden cane or bamboo. The golden cane gives you a nice green screen and looks nice with low maintenance. You can break up the pots with beds of colourful small plants e.g. agapanthus, bush lily etc . For lighting you can light up the beds or pots with outdoor spot lights that can also be solar. Wrap underneath the top wooden hand rail or along one of wires below it some warm light rope light. It's led so little energy consumption. My issue with a outdoor rug is that if left uncared for, water can stagnant and start to smell especially between the rug and the boards. The last thing I would do is get or build a new outdoor set. Styles and designs you can go through pictures in houzz and how to make stuff on YouTube and Pintrest.

Well I know you want to be true to the house & reuse what you can but I would probably go with a more modern style like the stainless wire and timber top rail rather than dowels or timber for the infill. Be mindful of building code for the infill as horizontal is climbable and has to be very close together. There is so much upkeep in timber & if you go with the vertical metal rod look with the timber top plate maybe...? I am not an expert on any era or style though I know you will have a preference in mind & I would go with that. Look at the big picture of how your house will look with a change of paint (are you painting the house?) & for me it was about making the 25 year old house more contemporary. We love it!

Thanks for your comments, for this project at Roseville, the frame for the decking was treated pine, and the top decking and the side screen was treated pine size 90mm x 22mm, we used decking oil (intergrain) Ultra Deck marine grade,( you can find it at Bunnings) with a (Merbau) Tint, this gives the timber a hardwood look. if you want to use a hardwood timber, I recommend using (Merbau) it comes in 90mm x 19mm and 135mm x 19mm. The decking is looking to the backyard Garden, nice view,
