Walk in Wardrobe or Built in Wardrobe for bigger space?
Comments (9)Personally, I'd prefer a WIR as opposed to a large "wall" of cupboards. I like the ability to open a single door and see all my clothes, rather than opening and closing multiple doors for various bits and pieces (e.g. pants in one cupboard, shirts in another). I think the WIR would be cheaper as nice cabinetry for the second option could be expensive. And I think the WIR would be better for resale value. Also, it's just a personal opinion, but the example photo reminds me of a gym locker room. A nice gym locker room, but that's the impression I have from all the cupboards with the bench in the "middle"....See MorePush-to-open mechanism on large IKEA wardrobe doors?
Comments (6)I have used the Ikea Utrusta push opener on 240cm x 50cm pax doors and it effectively opens the door 5cm which is enough to then easily open the rest of the way by hand. The only issue is that in order for them to work well in terms of ease of use with a double door pax wardrobe, you really need a shelf mid height installed in order to mount the Utrusta so that they are located behind the doors as close to where a door handle would normally be. I did try mounting them on the top but then you need to push the door towards the top and reaching to do that is no fun. I guess the other option if you needed a full length double wardrobe would be to mount them to base but then you would need to kick the door to open... I was advised against it by ikea staff on the basis that they were designed for the metod doors but I have had them in for a month now and am happy with the result and would recommend it if you want a handless design with the caveat that you will need to have a shelf mid height in a double wardrobe system so you have something to mount them to where the doors meet in the middle at handle height....See MoreIdeas Sought - Bedroom Design - Walk in Wardrobe
Comments (2)What about a kind of passageway that has a walkin in robe on each side, then you enter into the ensuite. Not sure how to draw and upload. Sort of a rectangular room with a central doorway at one short end, with robe on each side then you enter into the ensuite. which goes alonb the end behind the robes....See MoreEn-suite and walk in Wardrobe shared sliding door
Comments (17)We have the same layout as you in our 90s spec built home. We have Bunnings type cavity sliders so I imagine ours are about as cheap as you can get. They are awful - they are noisy when they slide so if one of us gets up in the night for the bathroom, we have to open the door in slow motion so as not to wake the other one up! We have them on our other wet rooms through the house and I find them not too bad acoustically but they don't screen anything in the ensuite. I would not recommend them at all. As for whether to have 1 or 2 doors, the only time I close the WIR door is when I am at my wits end haha! It's a great space for a private phone conversation but I really couldn't be bothered closing the door any other time...See Morelynnarmington
