custom rangehoods in australia
Comments (13)A chippy can create any kind of decorative effect you desire (its just fibre board and mouldings) and you can vent the mechanical hood under it. I have a godawful stainless steel modern hood in my vintage cottage. I'm sure the last residents loved it, but they failed to actually have the hood vented properly. It just vents into the roofspace. So I now have the opportunity to remove the largely useless anyway hood and start over. I'm planning the same as you. A faux hearth, boxed in with fibre cement board and then with decorative mouldings attached. The actual mechanical part will be properly vented outside....See MoreNot sure how a custom house build quote works...
Comments (14)Hi Deanne, When you say you are doing the kitchen, does that mean you have to do the planning (design) and specifying of it also? I would have thought Storybook supplied a home with the (kitchen) plans included? If not, your builder will be able to guide you, however here are a couple of tips... 1. Choose your appliances early AND STICK WITH THEM. Often individual appliances have specific needs outside of standard eg power requirement (over 10amps), rangehood ducting direction and type, clearances to overhead cupboards, water to fridge etc. 2. Using the appliances, work out the layout (design) of the kitchen and where you want the cooking, cleaning, fridge etc. From there you need to work out power point locations for all appliances (many people forget the microwave) plus the everyday items like phone chargers, toaster, kettle etc. 3. Go to kitchen display showrooms such as Laminex. They have completed kitchens on display where you can understand the difference between a waterfall end (benchtop style), a shaker profile door (Hampton's style cabinet front) and play around with colours and finishes. 4. Put it all together in detail and you have created a specification! Re finding a builder, I agree with the above. Get a couple of names from Storybook as you don't need beginner mistakes, and go with the builder you guys are COMFORTABLE with. Price is only part of the journey. Good luck with the build....See MoreWall-hung vs free-standing bathroom vanites -- pros and cons?
Comments (4)Hi thinkoutsidethebox, As a bathroom vanity retailer we can confirm that the trend is a preference for wall mounted vanities by far when compared to floor mounted vanities. Wall mounted vanities appear more modern, make the room feel more spacious, show off your tiles, and give the opportunity for open showers as water damage is reduced due to the cabinet being up off the floor. Due to the reduced storage, we also recommended face level storage such as a mirror cabinet which is more comfortable to use everyday with reduced bending to access drawers or cupboards below. You may also want to choose a vanity with the basins over the top of the bench top as recessed basins (basins that are under the bench top) will further compromise the storage of the cabinet. You may also have to consider the current plumbing outlet of your vanity in the space you are renovating as you may need to move plumbing inside the wall if the current outlet goes to the floor within (hidden inside) the cabinet. In some cases such as if your floor is a concrete slab, you may need an engineer to confirm if you can “chase” the slab be able to relocate the plumbing. All the additional work and cost to reconfigure the plumbing should also be considered when deciding to have a wall mounted or floor mounted vanity. See our extensive range of vanities here and mirror cabinets here....See MoreKitchen Top Cabinets Depth
Comments (14)I would be asking questions from the person who said that they needed to be an extra 120mm wide. Do they actually know how wide a LED strip is? Or have they got confused with a fluro light? This is a 300mm narrow overhead cabinets with LED strip lighting concealed behind a pelmet over the central island bench. I also used the same LED lighting strip above the curtain pelmet shining upwards, and the wall mounted overhead cupboards. "Needs to increase depth to 420mm" translates to "I could not be bothered to do something that needs a bit of extra work and thinking to make my clients happy so I will try and change their minds". Happens all the time in the building industry with many old-school types not wanting to change the way they have been doing things for 100 years, so it is easier to distract the clients. Stick to your guns as good lighting is crucial to a well designed and functional kitchen. Best of luck, Dr Retro of Dr Retro House Calls and Dr Retro Virtual Visits....See MoreM Miller
