Keeping Grout White

I'm moving into a house that is completely tiled, its brand new and i want to keep the grout white and tidy. I plan on mopping every week what would be a great solution/product to keep it white and bright over time?

Visit your hardware store and get advice on grout sealer products. But ensure you tell them it is for floors, not walls. Mopping the floors will clean the tile surface, but not the grout. Use rugs or carpet on floors where there is a lot of walking traffic. Eg: hallways, kitchen, doorways. To clean grout use a mix of vinegar and baking soda, and a broom with a stocking over the end. Sprinkle baking soda on grout then spray vinegar, this will then bubble, rub grout with broom. With a brand new home, you should not have to do this until you notice the grout discoloured. Maybe bring in the rule, that your home is a shoe free, or sock only zone.
The less times you clean the grout the better. Otherwise unsealed grout will start to deteriorate.

Thanks Nicole!! We actually went for white grout too in the end, and stacked them (mid century modern house, we thought it fitted better overall). I agreed with you that I wanted the detail of the tile to shine, not the shape of the tile. We still need to paint the rest of the room, etc., but I'm pleased. We had them sealed and used a supposedly more stain resistant grout (Davco Colour Elite). We loved the designs so much we put the 150mm blue jeans version in our pantry!! Thanks again for your reply. I'd go for white epoxy grout personally which makes cleaning for you a lot easier, doesnt need sealing - so low maintenance. It's your home, your design and while your builders and tilers should be advising you and its wise to listen or at least grill them on why they're giving you this advice, it's what you want. Yellowing grout can be colour leach from the tiles if they're cheap tiles, poor cleaning practices etc. I would point out that epoxy grout is more expensive and tilers charge a premium because it's a bit harder for them - but well worth it in the long run.

Congratulations on your new home! I personally favour an all-white interior, but I think it will also depend upon what you plan on doing with the ... colourful carpets. I'm not sure how they'd all look with white walls as they'd really be attention grabbers! I'd potentially start by painting the ceilings white - I personally, particularly don't like the darker ceilings in the bedrooms and blue hallway. I'd also potentially consider picking two or three of your favourite colours from the house (e.g. the hallway blue and bedroom green) and using fewer colours, but consistently throughout the house (instead of every room being a different colour). You could do all living areas in colour X and all bedrooms in colour Y. Good luck!

Sounds like a major hassle to me! White grout paint is usually for cleaning up grout stained by mildew, etc, not to go over a completely different colour. I am really surprised that your tilers did not consult with you about the grout colour before they went ahead. If you are really unhappy, and they acted without permission, you might be able to get them to redo. Otherwise, you may have to live with it and eventually wont notice it once the space is in regular use.
