to PirateFoxy I have NOT seen sofa bed options but, I have seen their sofas and they are FIRST CLASS all the way. They are upscale product and upscale for a reason. That reason is quality. I would trust an item made by American Leather but, you know its just in the nature of sofa/beds that they are notoriously NOT comfortable so, you might want to work on that "comfort" problem a little more. I know I have wrestled with it as well and finally just bought a "custom made" day bed from an architect/wood fabricator on www.etsy.com. Am waiting for it now! Will look for picture and attache for you and others to see. But, I can recommend American Leather (made in Texas) to everybody.

Hi Blufitch, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. The four coffee tables are lovely, but I would probably opt for one of the two top ones. That being said, check the measurements first as these round tables might be significantly larger than your existing Ikea table. Re the potted plant, a taller one would be better, or you can put this one on a plant stand or even on a ceramic stool. But if you feel a mirror would be too much due to your mirrored splashback, leave the plant as it is and hang a framed print above the plant. It doesn't need to be big, but it's important that it s not too small so it doesn't look too "lost" on the wall. It's hard for me to judge the size from here, but a 70x40 frame might be ok. You could have only the yellow canvas above the couch, but you would have to bring in a few more brightly-coloured cushions or throw onto the couch, to compensate for the empty wall. Alternatively, you could also hang a large mirror above the couch. If you decide to do this, I think it would be best to move the canvas back to where it was, and hang the mirror in front of the window, so it reflects the natural light around and gives more depth to the room. The large Ikea Stave mirror (in white stained oak) is very reasonably priced and would work great. Just double check it fits first (it's 70x160)! Tell us how yo go! This looks like a pretty good start but keep in mind that you already have a lot of hard surfaces (tiles floor, stone benches etc) that are going to bounce a lot of sound around that space. The big trick with open-plan living is to try to keep the ambient sound levels muffled and soft. Make sure that you put nice soft felt floor protectors on the feet of everything – you don't want to hear each time a chair or stool is dragged across the tiles. Don't even think of adding a glass-topped table to the mix – every time a glass is put down, a plate is shifted or cutlery moved it clinks and bangs (not to mention that they are the very devil to keep spotlessly clean and shiny and if they're not they look horrible). A timber table does not have to look 'woody' or clash with (or match) the floors – timber can be painted or stained and there are some very classy looking laminates out there that are easier to live with than glass. As others have said some rugs defining the zones within this large room will help to soften both the look and the sound, as well as introduce some colour. I also find the spacing of the pendant lights rather clunky – try spacing lights across the island rather than stringing them out across the full width of the ceiling.

You have a period home with wonderful warmth and character. Focus on lighting design, such as uplights and wall sconces to make the most of the drama of your soaring cathedral ceiling. They don't build them like this anymore, so don't try and disguise what makes your home special under a layer of plasterboard that you will see in any project builder's display village - they only use plasterboard as it is the cheapest way to cover the timber frame!
