Comments (6)We've used lilly pilly's successfully as hedging plants. They've got beautiful glossy leaves and grow fast. If you're selling and your budget allows it, buy mature ones, you can get them around 1.5-2m tall, plant 2 in each planter box for an immediate hedge or one in each. I think one is enough because it will give the idea of a screen without adding extra costs to you and sometimes the communication of an idea or the intent of an idea is enough for sellers. Comments (7)Thank you very much for your advice. I like your thinking and can develop my planting with your suggestions in mind. Confirming what type of pot colour has been a big plus in my search. I have planted some nasturtiums for a bit of summer colour, and hope the Shasta Daisies will also give a bit of show. It is in a hot dry place enduring Queensland 35-40C in summer, so the pretties, bulbs, azelias etc are all in winter/spring here, and summer is over to the more hardies. I take your point about the bare time between flowering, and as it is in the entrance to my yard, I am trying to make it inviting all year round. Comments (6)Is it a dwarf flowering gum or a big one? Many gums affect the ground beneath them, not allowing other plant competition to grow there...except azaleas, rhododendrons and other acid loving plants can do well. Another idea is to think of some native grasses, there are some excellent decorative cultivars now that are very hardy too.
