Small master with insufficient wardrobe space - how should I fix prob?
Comments (9)Hi Lambkin, there are many conflicting elements when it comes to making these decisions so you really have to rank your priorities. Obviously you need more storage, so storage is one priority, but when it comes to really tight storage situations like this with a potential major downfall such as greatly devaluing the re-sale by losing a bedroom it's worth getting very detailed about what you actually need sorted and how cleverly you can accommodate those needs with minimum impact. I aproach these situaltions like this; Assess requirement for deep storage- ie clothes that hang need 600mm depth unless you want to compromise further by turning the rods the opposite way. Assess requirement for shallow storage- folded gear, shoes, other stuff on shelves. These only neeed 360mm depth, externally 400mm. Breaking it down like this enables you to approach tight spaces much more effectively. Depending on the lineal hanging space you actually require, you might be able to fit a couple deep of built in robes in the existing room- possible either side of the bed. These will be purely hanging space. Then you might do a shallower cabinet or long, low drawer unit for the shoes and folded gear. If you are really tight, shoes can be stored vertically in drawers. Consider other storage opportunities throughout the home where you can store overflow items and do a seasonal swap if need be. If after fully considering the downside of converting room 3, then I would intend to do it in a way that you can still present it as a bedroom if need be, so preferrably don't change the walls. There is a good opportunity for deep overflow wardrobe hanging in the niche by the window in room 3, it looks about 800mm. If that was double hanging , you gain 1.6 lineal meteres there and have hardly lost any space in the room. Then doing a long low freestanding drawer unit or credenza for folded gear or shoes will not dominate the space with the height. Good Luck...See MoreWhat are your best tips for making your small space bigger?
Comments (15)The last home we had was a very small workers cottage so I kept the walls a light off white, table and to unit tops were gloss white to bounce the light around. My dining chairs and bar stools were clear acrylic so that I could see through them, the ends of my island bench/brekky bar were mirrored and my curtains were textured white sheers so that they also didn't take up too much visual room. All of my furniture was on legs so that I could see under it and the lounge room rug was pulled away from the lounge just a teeny bit so that I could see a little bit of timber flooring all the way round it, that all made the floor size look just a bit bigger. Bedrooms had mirrored wardrobe doors and bathroom was almost completely white (except for dark floor) and had frameless shower screen and oversized vanity mirror to reflect as much light as possible. Friends and visitors would comment that the house was bigger than they had imagined from the outside.......it wasn't, it was just styled inside to make it look larger....See MoreSmall bathroom mirror suggestions
Comments (15)Not a terrible idea at all. I placed two mirrors across each other in our small bathroom. The mirrors are not of the same width but are the same design and at the same height to maintain simplicity. One narrow mirror above the basin, same width as the basin and tall enough so that our tallest family member at 2m can see their face. The WC also sits next to the basin but I did not want to extend the mirror from the basin. The wall space above the WC allowed for decorative items, eg artwork; narrow display shelf to add interest and texture. Directly opposite the basin and WC is a wide cabinet, and a large mirror to cover that width of cabinet and at the same height as the basin mirror. This mirror also reflects the artwork above the WC. It reflects so much more light and creates a wonderful feeling of space....See MoreWhat should I hang above a 4.8m-long sofa?
Comments (25)Thank you everyone for your great comments. There were design ideas I had never thought of and really valued like the floating shelf, a mural and larger cushions and changing the colour of the lamp shade. Attached is the latest room version. I have moved paintings around. I do love this aboriginal painting, I am not sure if it is a little small but I'd really like it above the couch so perhaps another complimentary painting beside it? Or do you think it works ok? I think I can pretty much choose any colour from the painting for cushions and to brighten up the space - was thinking brighter and larger like suggested above by littlethommo2 and littlethommo2 . I still think I have balance/scale to work on - thank you Paul Di Stefano Design and littlethommo2 . I can move the cupboard at the end of the couch with the plant on it and place something taller here ? Any further ideas are really appreciated. Thank you all !...See MoreUser
