Help me design the layout of our powder rooms
Hi.
We have 2 powder rooms which we are trying to design the layout of.
We will have in built cisterns and a sink/vanity (potentially the sink would just sit on a plank of nice wood).
Powder Room #1 dimensions are 1.32m wide by 2.1m long.
I have 2 options - both are below. What are everyones thoughts on these layouts?
I think I love the first layout over the second but would like everyones opinions. I feel with a 2.1m long room, it would be enough room to achieve this.
Powder Room #2 dimensions - this room is 1.75 x 1.75. I think we could achieve a similar layout but the room is 350mm shorter.

6 years agoIf you can do with a bigger powder room without sacrificing space better used in another room, then I would definitely go with the first options on top. Either layouts would work, but with the one on the left, consider how the nib wall for the built in cistern will abut the vanity. The layout on the right works well too, and came across this as an idea...

Comments (4)my suggestion reduces the width of the guest bathroom to a modest ensuite size (1500 wide) or very generous powder room with the extra width added to the study for a built in wardrobe with an 800 wide toilet alcove behind the door for privacy (door must be shut to use the toilet) and a full wardrobe for the study (i've included a queen bed and desk to illustrate the available space and the study and guest room are now interchangeable)...the shower is 1500 x 900, the vanity is 1500 x 500 and toilet depth needs to be less than 700 deep with a carefully positioned door stop to prevent the door banging into the toiletbtw consider making the tall laundry cabinet deeper and wider (ie 750mm) if it's to be used for vacuum cleaner, ironing boards, brooms etc and the counter for the sink also needs to be deeper to neatly enclose the dryer and washing machine with suitable air space all round and easier access for concealed, inside the laundry tub cabinet, taps for the washer and dryer...See MorePlease help me position a guest toilet/powder room
Comments (12)I have a separate guest toilet without windows using a ceiling extractor fan - not a problem. I also have internal cavity sliding doors to bathrooms and toilets and love how they give extra space and options regarding placement of items. Another location alternative for you may be between the cinema room and the kitchen, depending on what you had planned for that extra space in the kitchen. Two metres is a wide hallway, if that is what it is? Ours is 1.3 which is considered wide (as we need to accommodate a wheelchair which has to turn into doorways). An advantage of a very wide hallway is it gives room for extra furniture placement such as bookshelves, linen or other cupboards if needed. I don't see a linen cupboard or pantry cupboard in your plans. Something else to think about is future proofing - try to cover future possibilities with regard to function, as making structural or fittings changes later can be more expensive, and may come at a time when you can least afford it (e.g. injured, disabled, children, aging or other such people visiting your home). Lives change, sometimes over time, sometimes in an instant, and suddenly the doors are not wide enough (especially the toilet door!), or the walls are not strong enough for a weight-bearing rail, and a host of other things. We put 900cm doors as a minimum and it makes life a lot easier, including moving furniture in and out. Universal Design principles are worth a look. Comments (11)If you are after round mirrors + lighting, I want to suggest the mirrors we offer at Remer. We have round mirrors, 600x600 as well as 800x800, that are LED Backlit with a Touch Sensor Switch. The LED lighting around the mirror makes make-up application and overall lighting on the face a much better than option than downlights, which create shadows over the face. The LED mirrors are modern and are actually the norm over in Europe, where we have been selling for over 10 years. Comments (19)What height does the window start? You need to make sure that there will be enough height for a mirror so that a tall person can see their head in the mirror. We had a similar dilemma wth a window above the vanity but the window is quite high. Here is a pic....... something to keep in mind is the thickness of the walls and correct installation of the in wall cisterns and best practice for plumbing and noise control in adjoining rooms so consult your designer and plumber to confirm suitability of any arrangements but for our two in wall cisterns we have a thicker reinforced stud wall in one and the other has the cistern built into an extra cavity in front of the stud wall with a section of counter over the top ....my suggestion would be to have the powder rooms arranged as follows with the option of the extended counter over the extra cavity for the cistern if necessary

I would go with the first layouts for both rooms. They work better with the position of the vanity and toilet and the view when you open the door. Think about adding some interesting lighting to make this room a bit more special than a functional toilet. Also think about how you are going to hide/display the plumbing below the plank vanity. Bottle traps are a good solution- see example below. Best wishes
