The shelving is probably melamine. Used extensively through homes for kitchens, laundry’s, WIR, BIR shelving. Has been used for years.

Custom built this will depend on your preference. Depth depends on screen size. Monitor height again based on your height. Check out an ergonomic guide. Go check desks out to see your preference. If the room has no windows you may want to have desk on side wall so you can see out into hallway, ..
