I can see all of Australia being rendered in ironstone, shale grey, basalt.
Your home has interesting curved arches. Reminds me of Art Deco.
How about rendering in a crisp white, with your new dark tiles on front porch, and lots of greenery.
The front cement is letting the home down, not the brick.

Lets start with the really , really obvious .

You want to change from charcoal to dark grey roof tiles ? Do the tiles need changing , or do you just want to move 0.5 steps to the left on the colour wheel ? Why not go orange , or orange and charcoal speckled , or red and charcoal speckled tiles ? Or leave as they are ?

Why render ? Is it because someone decided to make a basic red brick a bit more interesting by rounding some corners , and it makes you think it is Spanish ?

As others have pointed out , some of the problem areas are the tiles that make it look like a $2 store entrance , and the concrete , and the concrete , and the concrete .

Here's my quick plan .

Roof -- leave as it is .

Gutters / Barge Boards -- leave as they are .

Red Brick -- Render THE BOTTOM 800mm-1 metre in an English cream , with a definite protruding break line . So part way up the window height . A visual break .

Garage Doors -- same charcoal as the existing roof . The render carries right around the house by the way .

Terrace Tiles -- anything you like , apart from existing haha . Black/charcoal would probably be too dark , but a mid-grey shale would contrast with the English Cream render and probably my choice .

Concrete -- get the cutters in . Do a low rendered planter along the front , a mix of broad leafy plants and colourful grasses and cactii -- mix it up . Then have some grass . It might only be a 'token' 50cm wide strip , but it needs something .

Colour -- the more observant will have noticed theres still no real colour . So a large size ( 800mm tall ? ) and a medium size ( 300-400mm tall ) glazed pot on the terrace in gloss red or yellow or orange , with some smaller plants , a creeper , etc .

Done for $10-15k ?

Pottsy, I read that the, original post said that the, orange tiles on front porch are being replaced in grey, not the roof tiles ??

I was confused , but hopefully you are right !

Mind you , the other option would be to keep the terrace tiles in orange and cream checker pattern , and do the roof to match . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

thanks for the advice everyone just to clarify the roof tiles are not ! being changed we are just waiting for the tiles to be laid but we have started our change of it

Personally , I think its going to end up with quite a dark 'nothing' profile -- quite a dark red brick , a dark roof and dark terrace with a dark door and dark windows .

I reckon whoever did the existing terrace should be arrested , but at least there was some lightness and colour -- just the colour was all wrong , unless you did the roof to match , added a large rooftop neon sign , and started your own fried chicken franchaise . . . . . .

A lighter terrace tile , and a lighter and/or brighter paint on the door would be a start IMO .

Can't wait to see the change. Please post pictures.
Also would like to see if you remove any of that concrete at the front, or at least soften it, with plants.
