Are these tiles suitable for a mid-century bathroom?
Hi, I would appreciate your opinions as to whether these tiles pass for a mid century era reno (1960 build). They are to be a feature wall above a bath. Thanks!

Our bathroom had the same layout, but we managed to fit a much longer bath and a toilet in by moving the vanity from under the window to the left hand wall, putting the longer bath under the window, putting a toilet where the bath was previously and leaving the shower in the same position. Comments (8)Nathan - they are great tiles. From my own experience with tiles like this I would be keeping them as they are of good quality and will last forever. There are various qualities of engineered floorboards, ranging from the cheap and nasty to the beautiful and expensive. However all of them will be thicker than your tiles, especially if you need a floor-levelling compound for the old slab. Larger format tiles tend to be thicker, so if you are going to use tiles then look at small format tiles. Don't try to match, but find something small and thin that complements. Comments (11)you said you could extend towards the west to replace the laundry but what's the distance from the side of the original dining room to the western boundary and what are your long term plans for the old dining room, kitchen and the space behind the garage? if you expect to extend, as me me already said, it's much better to plan the whole house renovation and it can also be more cost effective to add new rooms than to rearrange existing spaces even if you have to do the work in stages but, as we can't read the writing on your plans, it difficult to make specific suggestions and i don't understand where you plan to add the new kitchen ...does the house have only original rooms or is part of the house an old extension? what are all the floors and walls made out and what is the height of the back deck off the ground? please show room names and dimensions on the plans in larger print and some photos inside and out would help understand the existing spaces but my initial thought would be to have a new kitchen,pantry and laundry on the garage side and use the old dining room kitchen and laundry bathroom as a new master suite..but depends on correct dimensions....See Moremid century modern new build advice
Comments (10)Sadly building a mid-century modern style home is more expensive than building a mass-market builders project home. You don't get much of a new home with even a mass market builder for your budget range, especially when you have demolition costs and site costs to contend with. You would probably be looking at some of their first-home buyer options with minimum ceiling heights, minimum cabinetwork, the cheapest tiles, and the minimum number of power points and light fittings. Some would have you believe these tiles are more appropriate for circa, very late 1800 through to 1920's eras. [ Personally, I'd also dispute those claims too]
I definitely agree with the comments of Dr Retro House Calls, however, I would like to add that you don't have to be rigid in your approach. If you like these tiles over everything else you can find, then use them for goodness sake.
There are no rules to say that you must adhere strictly to everything 1960's. If you want to have a 'feel' of the 60's era about the bathroom, then find something else that will give that 'hint'.
It could be as simple as the use of the paint colours of the era, or an art piece that ties the room back. Or perhaps the light fittings or the curtains. The choice is yours.
Just DO IT WELL, so that the whole room feels united, cohesive and in harmony with itself.
I am in the process of finishing off my property, having renovated the inside and am now working on the landscaping.

My theme has been 'loosely' based on the Arts and Crafts movement but the only thing genuinely true to that era is that I have used William Morris Drapes to inspire the cohesive effects of my efforts as shown in my sample board below.
Make your project, your take on the 60's and own it. :-)
