Timber deck or tiled concrete patio?
Comments (8)Hi, why don't you have a think about installing composite decking which will allow you to be level with the door sill without the worry of run-off into the house due to the 5mm gap between the boards. Composite doesn't required coating so the maintenance issues are significantly less, just a hose down and sweep or mop with water. You would still need to excavate approx. 250mm below the finished deck level to allow for the sub-frame but if you use treated pine framing with, either H4 stumps in concrete, or galvanised stirrups to anchor the framing into the soil. Check with your local decking pro for further advice and brand options. Generally, the USA made composites like Trex or Timbertech are better quality and the concealed fixing systems are easy to install. Your soil type may be the only issue with water, ie clay which retains water, or sand which tends to drain more quickly. Good luck...See More"Outdoor Room" (indoors)
Comments (11)You could mount a TV which can swing out from the entry wall from the main house, or on the one opposite one near the back sliding doors, or on the floor, in the corner. Depending if you need storage on the back wall, you could have your lounge at the back of the room, or have a walkway between the back wall and the lounge. An easy moving lounge is great for moving into different positions around the room. I like the idea of the bar as a drinks trolley. Actually furniture on wheels is great for rearranging whenever you like. I usually have wheels mounted to furniture as I live on my own and it just makes it so much easier. Another idea, is a buffet across the wall of the three windows and a tele positioned placed above or on where the brick wall is in the middle of the three windows, and the buffet can act as a bar and whatever else....See MoreUnder deck area - any ideas?
Comments (7)Would be good to use as a sitting area for BBQ's etc, rather than blocking it off with screening. Probably not ideal for storage though, as it looks like it gets damp/wet. I've done one recently (surprisingly similar in many ways) where we are to excavate down to gain extra head height. We will then lay a new slab and use screening to the sides facing the neighbours. We are to also tile the deck above and waterproof it, etc.. It will add quite a bit of usable space to the whole site and house. It'll be used for BBQ's, etc., cheap way to increase the entertainment areas of both thats for sure! You could do something similar depending on budget. Better to update the area and then use it rather than just blocking it off as it will become wasted but valuable space....See MoreNeed help for an under house area.
Comments (8)First step - get rid of the cats. As I'm sure you know, cat pee, cat poo and cat vomit not to mention hunting trophies are not what you want to be dealing with when you're doing anything with an area. Avoid BBQ's - unless you're prepared to spend on having a fire rated ceiling (BBQ flare ups are a fire hazard). Depending on how much storage the house has - dedicate part of the area to dedicated good looking storage (honestly, there's never enough of it). Look at creating an all weather sitting/entertaining area (you could put in a false ceiling or paint the ceiling all one colour to match your pipework). Pop in a bar fridge, some cool outdoor furniture and think about concreting the floor and putting down one or more cool outdoor rugs and if there's enough room down there think about creating a screened off change room for the hot tub visitors. This makes it the perfect entertaining area when it's hideously hot, pouring rain or when you use your hot tub and want the users contained to that area when they've got wet swimming costumes etc....See MoreRobert Bakker
