You may be able to seat less at a tulip table and if you can live with that go for it. It would look great with your striped rug. Clear acrylic chairs would look good such as the IKEA Tobias but I would go for white solid or a mix of grey, white and black.

I personally love indoor plants. They are now fashionable, although in my home they are always in fashion because of their health benefits. Your decor lends itself to a squat round pot with an aspidistra in it [cast iron plant]. The pot could be earthy or even red. You have a mixture of colours in the room, so the pot colour is not important really. You don't want anything too tall in this spot. The green foliage would really lift the red feature wall.

Google Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. It's the best chalk paint. Just wondering...why are you actually wanting to renovate the table - is it in bad condition that we can't see? I agree it needs to stay a dark colour. To be honest, I would leave the table as is and spend the money on some drapes for the windows. At the moment it all looks a bit stark, but that's just my opinion from what we can see in the pic.
