The guy who sold us the kitchen told me that the best floor colour for a mainly black and white kitchen is a combination of the two: grey! Especially if you have stainless steel appliances, it would coordinate with those. Also, he said that even unseen, the plinth should match the colour of the tiles floor if you want the cabinets to look like they are floating. The wining argument for us however was that grey flooring is more forgiving with dust, dirt and the such, being less visible than on black or white. And the bigger the tile, the better; less grout to look after. Look through the photos of kitchens with grey floors and see what you think. In the meanwhile, this is how our floor looks like (please ignore that black fool spoiling it):

The benchtop will be dark grey (the ones you see are temporary), black handles and the tiles will be white with light grey grout. The paint on the walls will stay as is (light grey). Thanks for your thoughts guys. Would anyone go all the way to the ceiling? why/why not? Does the herringbone pattern influence your decision?

What colour would you recommend for the splashback if we're going glass? also we might be tenant in the property, will glass be okay there? (also.... how much more expensive is thus going to be that tile? I have no idea on costing here :S) Also I think I may have oversold the messyness of my cooking haha I'm not that bad but I do worry about discolouration of grout.

okay!!! A lot of these commenters obviously thought what I did - that the cupboards are a deep browney grey!! I think the responses would have been very different if we knew the cupboards were white. If you re-read thru the responses you will see that. Perhaps try re-posting the dilemma with a better pic. One of those original tiles may actually look ok.
