Firstly - thank you everyone for your fantastic ideas. I absolutely loved the light and airy Look especially! I have been visiting various lighting stores today and other online sites and then went back to the house and I am not sure that I have reached any useful conclusion! My latest thought (which may change!) is that I have a lot of beautiful Aboriginal artworks so I am thinking this room might showcase all of that and have a warm light to complement - possibly brass, but maybe even a completely out of the box modern fitting as a juxtaposition to the gorgeous art. Your great ideas have made me more comfortable again with a pendant over the table, but a lot that I saw today was chrome which doesn't thrill me. I hope to change the balustrades in the next couple of years to something more contemporary also. Thanks for keeping the ideas flowing!

Hello Kelly! The drawing of your soon to be kitchen is amazing, the exposed beams add a raw element and texture to the room whilst keeping the space feel open and inviting. You mentioned you wanted to place your dining table in the opposite direction with white chairs. I get the feeling that you might like a more eclectic or scandi look, timbers and whites! The above pendants you mentioned you loved are beautiful woven baskets, however as someone else mentioned these styles will cast shadows due to their cut outs. To counteract this try using some low wattage globes (if these pendants are only decorative) - look at using downlights for task lighting. Yeah got about half a dozen light fittings over time that I really like in preparation for moving into a place that I am now renovating. Of course yes they are from China, no way of contacting the manufacturers, no idea who they are. It's only now that I've found out that my sparky won't put them up because they haven't got the Australian certification. I've even got a 'Phillips Hue' smart light from the UK that I was of the understanding they have similar regulations to Australia. I've contacted Phillips Hue and they won't commit either way, saying that if it's not purchased in Australia they can't guarantee, blah blah. I can't understand how I can't just get a sparky to rewire and change anything else out that is needed? Everything in Australia is just so flamin hard hey, in comparrison to the US especially.

Go with your gut Tracy..... it is a big investment but I have found that if it makes you smile every time you walk into your kitchen you'll never regret it!!!! I've recently moved into a smaller downsized home with my 3rd black kitchen, with drawers, no cupboards, except for the pantry which we use as the crockery and wine glasses stash. Mine is matt but no handles = no hip bangers! I chose to use snow white stone bench tops, the walls are painted natural white while the floors are pale oak hybrid vinyl.
