With the roof tile colour I suggested off white, but NEVER WHITE as you'd need sunglasses to enter (talk to a roof painting company). It's also a way to minimize heat by reflection, therefore lowering cooling cost and making life more comfortable, plus very aesthetically appealing. Though the down side is more regular semi pressure cleaning. I do like mid to light grey for outside timber decking or tiles under a roof line with this colour combination. For anything else as far as outside in direct sunshine, stay light but in the same hues, it can be too hot to walk on barefooted if remotely mid to dark in colour.

Going through the photos these are my thoughts. - Personally I do not mind the contrast between the colours of the house but it is a strong contrast and might not be to everyone's taste. Do you dislike either of the colours? Changing either colour involves cost and possibly increased ongoing maintenance but if you hate the colour scheme you might feel it's worth it. - The change in driveway material is visually distracting. It looks like a tight turn into the driveway? As has been said, reducing the amount of gravel would help. I'm not sure what else you can do in the short term. - The PVC downpipe needs painting so that it doesn't stand out. - What is the tree on the corner of the house? I think when it gets bigger it will improve the kerb appeal. When it comes to landscaping sometimes what is needed is patience - Do you need the path to be so wide. If you don't need it for say trailer access or something like that I suggest extending the garden bed on the left further across towards the front door. - What is the upper lawn for? I lived in a rental property where I had to mow the lawn at the top of a sleeper retaining wall and if possible I would always design such things with a garden bed along the edge to avoid needing to mow right up to the wall. Bonus benefit, you can plant something to spill over the wall and soften it. - The plants in front of the garage look too large and random and distract from what is quite an interesting modern roofline. I see something like a larger garden bed with more variation in colour and texture, or perhaps more uniformity and one feature plant? And the house number on the brick wall in the same colour as the upper part of the house. - How's the drainage? I finally worked out what else was bothering me. Not strictly aesthetic. But it looks like you front door is not very high above the surrounding ground level? - I think the bush garden style with the rocks and strappy plants suits the house.

Thanks everyone! We bought the house a little over a year ago. It looks mostly the same, except the pond next to the front door has been pulled out and replaced with landscaping. I don’t hate the bricks, I am just trying to work out the best option that incurs minimal occurs for maximum effect. Yep, the idea would be to paint the guttering and downspouts as well – just need to decide colour scheme for the house first. The outdoor lights and letterbox will also be replaced once a decision is made. The driveway we think we will paint until we can afford to do aggregate and once a decision on the house has been made. After Gallifrey comments, I am going back to the idea of painting the roof. The roof gets me stuck every time. I hate the colour and find it hard to work with. Love the idea of a pergola to enhance the front door!! Just wonder how much it would cost

Hi Scooby, there's a house near by that has the same timber as you which has been painted a mid grey, I will try to get a photo , it made a big difference. Our house also had "undercoat"pink front doors with coloured glass we replaced them with double plain doors for privacy and added two large architectural handles, one on both sides of the same door. Getting back to your roof, houses on both sides of us had their roofs done at different times by different people. One was a total botch up and had to be re done., the other was done correctly which included re doing all of the ridge capping etc and is a really good job. Then a very successful builder bought a house across from us, he gutted it and re did everything including rendering the walls white, and has had the existing tiled roof sprayed black, he now lives there.
