Mattiebodie, I think that's a good idea. Lots of different styles work together but I think no matter how they were arranged, those chairs and sofa might just continue to fight with one another. Too bad there isn't an office or bedroom where the sofa could work! When you're ready to look for a new sofa, please post pics of the ones you're considering. We can sure try to help by discussing style, color, just how to best place everything in the room, etc. Hopefully you could get it all figured out before you spend any money.

With the traditional, decorative elements of the ceiling, I would be inclined to go with a more traditional, but still relatively simple, looking ceiling fan. Maybe take in some photos of your ceiling and get the sales person's opinion? You'll also need to consider placement since a ceiling fan has the potential to disrupt the decorative elements if haphazardly placed.

As with any colour, you have to consider how other colours in the room with impact. This is particularly so with white. For example the hue in floorboards and floor coverings will reflect off the white and impact the final result as will, room direction and seasons. For natural white to look peachy, there must be other factors at play, for example, golden tone flooring with a room facing daytime sun (north in southern hemisphere or south in northern hemisphere.)

Wendy I empathise with you, we had so much antique and large furniture when we moved into our much smaller home, it was stuff I never thought I could part with, but it didn't all fit and it didn't all go. We got rid of a few things, then a few more then it became easier and it nearly all went. I have kept a few special pieces and some I have given away, some my children wanted (not much - they just don't want our style) some I was able to sell. I got better at selling. On gumtree up grade your add to $20 top add, got 100% hit with that. Also Facebook antique buy and sell was a great place to sell antique and vintage furniture. I do not miss those items now that I thought I couldn't part with. Our house is less cluttered and I have purchased new smaller scaled furniture for our smaller home, it has been very invigorating and I am loving it. Not finished yet moved August 2013. I painted our former dining table and changed chairs to give a more modern look, very pleased with look. I don't think I would paint the table in your picture but may update chairs for a modern home. Don't let furniture hold you back, it is only furniture it can become a millstone when trying to move on.
