Plumbers

Plumbers are necessary tradesmen on any home construction site, as most states require a licensed plumber to carry out any work that interacts with the installation of a drinking water system or sewer line. Whether you’re renovating a bathroom or installing a brand-new kitchen, a plumber will ensure all plumbing systems and fixtures are installed correctly and comply with the appropriate national standard. If you face an unexpected plumbing emergency such as a burst pipe or gas leak, their know-how will also help you minimise damage, with some offering 24-hour services. On Houzz, you will find qualified plumbers who specialise in various types of plumbing, including water, sanitary, drainage, roofing and gas. Read recommendations, reviews and ratings by previous clients, and request plumbing quotes directly. More

What does a plumber do?

There’s more to A plumber installs, maintains and repairs water, sewage and natural gas pipes throughout a home, as well as interior and exterior faucets and fixtures such as toilets. They are trained to work with water mains, septic tanks, laundry appliances, water heaters, sump pumps and other plumbing and pipe systems. They can advise you on renewable energy options, and install rainwater tanks, pressure boosting pumps, solar hot water systems and more.

With a lot of plumbing work done behind walls and underneath floors, some plumbers will also repair or replace tile, stonework or other surfaces, if need be. You’ll find most plumbers provide a variety of services, including maintenance and construction, covering gas, solar and electric. However, some will have areas of expertise. A 24-hour plumber, for instance, will be well versed in residential emergencies and repairs, while others may be more experienced in renovations and new homes, or the installation of septic systems, rainwater tanks, pumps and other special water and drainage systems.

Questions to ask a prospective plumber:

  • How long have you been in the business?
  • How many projects like mine have you completed?
  • Who will be working on the project?
  • Are the workers employees or subcontractors?
  • Can you provide me with references?
  • Are you and your employees licensed and insured?
  • What license(s) do you have?
  • How do you charge, and what does that include?
  • Can you give me a written estimate?
  • What do your services include?
  • How will I be charged for parts and materials?
  • Who will make repairs to any structural damage that results from the job?
  • When can this job be completed?
  • What happens when cost exceeds the budget? What about changes to materials or labour pricing?
  • What will I need to provide?
  • Are there any important considerations or concerns you foresee with this project?
