See the 10 most popular Australian designs here or browse the full list of Australian and New Zealand winners. If you see one of these awards, this means that one of his or her designs was voted by you (with your clicks) as one of the most popular photos of 2014.
For example, this living room by Robert Mills Architects and Interior Designers was among the most added photos in Melbourne in 2014. It definitely follows the most popular living room design elements as featured in a recent Houzz survey, where it was revealed that three in five of us choose to display our artwork in the living room; over a third of us have a fireplace; one in four dedicate a feature wall (more on the popularity of exposed materials next) to the case; and three in five of us choose to pull it together with a rug.

From concrete to exposed timber, Capital Building won a Design badge for this bedroom design, which was the most popular bedroom in Sydney. This bedroom follows a noticeable trend on Houzz this year, that bare is best. We saw a huge rise in the popularity of exposed timber, brickwork and concrete based on the amount of times certain photos were added to your ideabooks.
Indeed, Darren Palmer Interiors’ take on an exposed timber bedroom feature wall, with pops of contemporary colour, came in as the runner up for the most popular bedroom in Sydney 2014.

White is right when it comes to Australian homeowners’ kitchens, although we do love our timber accents in the kitchen, too. Here’s a design that pipped other Adelaide kitchens to the post, earning One Small Room Interiors & Building Design their very own design badge.
And it’s no surprise that a kitchen containing handy wine storage made it into the top photos for Adelaide 2014. Well done, Watermayne Projects.
Speaking of storage, we have to congratulate Zugai Strudwick Architects and Henarise P/L for this hard-working stair storage design, which was one of the most popular photos of the year. Thousands of you added this design from a Sydney cottage to your ideabooks – and it’s not hard to see why.
Clever storage in all shapes and sizes was a hit with Houzzers. Although users with this window seat-cum-hidden storage design by bg architecture seem just as taken with the flooding light and connection to the outdoors.
The lines between indoors and out continue to be blurred for Australian homeowners. If we’re not dreaming of creating seamless flow à la EDR Building Designs’ hallway in Cairns …
… we’re taking it completely outdoors! This Darwin outdoor bathroom, designed by DM2 Architecture, pulled on many a sun-hungry Australian’s heartstrings.
The great Australian verandah prevailed in Brisbane. This outdoor living space was added to almost 30,000 ideabooks, helping it reach the top spot for most popular photo in Brisbane 2014 and earn a Houzz badge for Highgate House.
And the daydreaming didn’t stop there. You voted with your clicks that Phase 3 Landscape Construction’s pool and deckside hideaway in Perth was among your favourite soaking spots in the whole of the region.

And a lot of you are missing the beach, clearly. Acacia Joinery Pty Ltd’s sandpit garden in Wollongong earned them their own Best of Houzz 2015 Design badge.
Pros also received badges for Customer Service, determined by a variety of factors, including the number and quality of client reviews received in 2014. Just look for a grey Service badge on the left-hand side of a professional’s page. Here you can see that Swell Homes earned both Design and Service badges in 2014.
