Teenage Girls' Bedrooms to Suit Every Personality
Bedroom design ideas for every type of teenage girl – from the tomboy to the princess and everything in between
What space could be more important to a teenage girl than her bedroom? When planning the furnishings and layout, take into account her personality type, as well as her hobbies and favourite colours, to help you set up a space that meets her needs and lets her add accessories to express herself.
Here are a mix of thoughtfully designed rooms to suit a range of teen styles and attitudes.

The artist. Satisfy a budding artist’s need for colour and eye-catching shapes with a statement rug in all the colours of the rainbow along with a bright lampshade, footstool and a cosy chair or two. A quirky display case offers plenty of nooks in which to store artsy treasures.
The dreamer. This girl spends her free time doodling, writing poetry and daydreaming, so a buttery yellow room will reflect the easygoing positivity and gentleness of her nature. Feminine touches, including the framed prints and a bunch of flowers, add sweetness to this relaxed happy space.
The starlet. A budding actor, singer or dancer will appreciate a room that’s centred around a special artwork like a black and white print of her career idol. Dark flooring and bright decorative accents echo the stage environment this gal will one day be the star of.
The princess. Think pink when it comes to decorating this girl’s room. An outrageous chandelier is a must-have, as are pink curtains and bedding which must be covered with plenty of plump pillows (try a satin cover or two). Other ideas include a four poster bed and wall sconces, glossy side tables, or anything else that will have this little princess feeling pampered and adored.
The hipster. A girl who’s further along in her teen years, independent and looking forward to adulthood needs a sophisticated space in which to hang out. Grey forms a mature base colour while red accents and funky artwork keep the room young and fresh.
The tomboy. Banish anything feminine from this gal’s room as she’s too busy climbing trees and riding bikes to be bothered with pretty decor. A simple layout and dark colours with an emphasis on practicality over style can be rescued from boredom with some graffiti-style artwork.
The quiet achiever. Soft pastel furnishings and pretty prints lend subdued colour and a gentle feel to a room whose occupant can often be found studying or reading. A comfortable desk with plenty of natural light and a cosy couch or day bed will give her seating options for doing just this.
The nature lover. A feature wall showcasing an array of colourful flora is a great way to bring a sense of the wilderness indoors and you can choose from a handpainted mural or wallpaper. Shades of sky blue will keep the space feeling airy. Perch some pot plants in sundrenched spots and this room’s owner will feel surrounded by nature’s beauty.
The rebel. The desire to defy convention often includes the use of black paint or furnishings that can be tricky to incorporate into a bedroom without it looking gloomy. Here, its selected use in bedding and on architraves is offset by vivid hues including yellow, lime and fuchsia. A customised upholstered headboard broken up with bright stripes makes a bold but considered design statement, too.
The minimalist. A girl who prides herself on being neat and organised and getting through her day with a minimum of fuss can still enjoy a splash of girlie colour on her otherwise neutral retreat’s bedding. A wicker chest at the foot of an elegant bed will store odds and ends out of sight and simple window treatments keep the area as light and airy as possible.
