Brookline Remodel

Traditional Exterior, Boston

This project is a complete residential makeover of an existing 1950s home in Brookline, MA. The goal was to transform the home from a dark “background building” into a marquee shingle-style home in the competitive neighborhood. Although the overall appearance of the home was remodeled, much of the original structure remained. Gables roofs, dormers, and other architectural features were added to transform the curb appeal of the residence. A low dark porch was also removed in favor of a new glass-enclosed foyer, clad with a copper roof. Rooms within the home were modified to allow more natural light by adding additional windows, transom windows, and new vaulted ceilings. Finally, attention was given to landscaping. The transformation required the removal of most of the existing overgrown plantings. Care was given to select species that required low maintenance and selecting plantings that bloomed at different times of the year.
