Modernizing a mid-century Adam's hill home was an enjoyable project indeed. The kitchen cabinets are modern European frameless in a dark deep gray with a touch of earth tone in it. The golden hard integrated on top and sized for each door and drawer individually. The floor that ties it all together is 24"x24" black Terrazzo tile (about 1" thick). The neutral countertop by Cambria with a honed finish with almost perfectly matching backsplash tile sheets of 1"x10" limestone look-a-like tile.

We started the design process by selecting inspiration colors from Dunn Edwards paints. We chose Rainer White, Dark Lagoon and Mesa Tan colors inspired by a fabric swatch that the client wanted to use somewhere in their home. After the general design and space planning of the kitchen was complete, the clients were shown many colored, 3D renderings to show how it would look before settling on the Dark Lagoon upper cabinets, tall cabinets and pantry. For the island and base cabinets, we chose Alder wood with a stain color that complemented the inspiration color of Mesa Tan. Walls throughout the house were painted Rainer White.

The small footprint posed a challenge for storage. These beautifully stained cabinets are tall and expertly arranged to maximize every inch of available space. Extra cabinetry can be found in the butler’s pantry or bar area leaving the kitchen solely for the cook. A wrought-iron chandelier and black cabinet hardware add some warmth to this light and bright space.

I would classify this project as "Desert Contemporary." The door is a Shaker door with a rustic Folkstone finish, with a pop of white in the center visual. The cabinet design is European Frameless so we were able to minimize the gaps between the doors and provide a complete flush layout. The Glo European Windows A5 Double Pane series was selected for the project to provide cost effective durability and value. Full lite entry doors from the A5 series provide natural daylight and access to the energy efficient home while delivering a much higher performance value than traditional aluminum doors and windows. Large asymmetrical window configurations of fixed and tilt & turn windows provide natural ventilation throughout the home and capture the stunning views across the valley. A variety of exterior siding materials including stucco, dark horizontal wood and vertical ribbed metal are countered with an unembellished Dutch hip roof creating a composition that is both engaging and simplistic. Regardless of season, the Ridge Residence provides comfort, beauty, and breathtaking views of the Montana landscape surrounding it.
