We took some pictures of this project before it was finished and then never had time to come back after it was mulched and detailed out. Still we liked the hardscape layout, walls and the way we leveled the yard and expanded the driveway and so we decided to share it anyways.

Valders Rustic pavers are utilized as steppers, framed with matching Valders stone planking, to lead visitors to a secret gate with a hidden latch. This is the portal to the back of the house and the west-side pool. LED path lights from Kitchler illuminate the way along a concrete sidewalk. A custom cedar fence with Rain patterned safety glass panels separates the space from an encroaching neighbor while reflecting the mid-century modern style of the home.

Designed for a Cliff May "Rancho" home, this project resulted comfortable outdoor spaces for relaxation and entertaining. New walls and fencing, softened with lush planting, create a private atmosphere. And a casual, meadow-style garden filled with California native plants echoes the home's open, airy feeling. Another requirement of the Backyard Habitate Certification was a selective list of plants, proven to be favorites of local bird life. Many are natives and others meet other plant characteristics allowed. Japanese Forest Grass, a variety of ferns, Snowberry, Bleeding Heart and the like call out to to those soaring overhead. This Sweet 100 Tomato is so prolific I am having a hard time containing its enthusiasm with numerous support systems. Cherry tomatoes are packed with flavor and have more sugar content than larger size tomatoes. It is impossible not to pick one and eat it while I am working. :-)

Close up of Dymondia margaretae ("Silver Carpet"), growing in flagstone gaps. We set the stones at roughly 2.5" apart and added an amended soil to the final 2" between the stones. Plugs were installed on roughly 5-6" centers. 98% filled in after 5 months. Irrigated with Hunter MP rotators at 30 minutes every 10 days. We're now backing it off since they've become established.
Waterside Landscaping
This project included demolition of an old poured concrete patio area and replacement with travertine paving. Client had large slabs of slate paving stones which were re-used as a walkway to the side of the home. All works were carried out with care and attention to the root zone of a large redwood tree.
