“Brolga was appointed via competitive tender as the head contractor for an 8 unit apartment development in Broome at a construction cost of $2.16M + GST. The developer is Nyamba Buru Yawuru Ltd (a not-for-profit indigenous organsiation) and I am the Property Project Manager. The apartments were designed by local architecture firm Engawa Architects as a double storey complex with high quality contemporary finishes in Broome style architecture. We involved two builders in a preliminary pricing process based on concept plans, and proceeded to a formal tendering process upon procurement of a planning permit and completion of design development documentation. Brolga were proactive in the tendering process, offering targeted cost savings, buildability efficiencies and recognised the importance of the quality finishes specified. The works were awarded under an AS4000 Construction Contract and Brolga was prompt and consultative in resolving outstanding design issues leading up to the procurement and construction phase. Brolga employed a cohesive team on site and maintained a clean, tidy site throughout construction. Contract Administration processes were effective & sophisticated and at all times professional, and any issues on site were addressed with a phone call and a site meeting, resulting in excellent communication and resolutions between client and builder. Variations were resolved with transparency and discussion and negotiations at all phases were easy. The quality of the finished product is excellent and the pre completion inspections revealed very few defects. There have been very few issues post handover and the apartments have been successfully tenanted. In all we were very happy with Brolga's performance and would not hesitate to recommend them, or use them on future projects.”
