In the capacity as a recent client, I am able to give a comprehensive account of our experience with the company on behalf of my wife and I. For the purposes of disclosure, I confirm that I was not retained to provide this testimonial on a commercial basis, nor for any other benefit. When my wife and I observed first the quality of Ben and Sam Van Deuren's workmanship, we were convinced they were worth meeting in person with a view to building a house of our own. However, superior trade craft alone would not have been enough to convince us to invest ourselves and our money in a company to build our forever home. Our minds were made up on meeting with the two brothers in person for the first time. You would be hard pressed to find builders as genuine and encouragingly positive as Ben and Sam. Both brothers bring to the table a variety of high-end building experiences having worked on significant projects in mid-to-affluent areas of the State. Aside from the obvious advantage of a high-end standard, the significance of this to us was that they are also accustomed to building with less-common methods and materials should they be required. During the lead-up and early stages of the build, it became obvious to us that the brothers viewed it as more than just another job. They invested themselves wholly into the project as if they were building a home for their own respective families, not just clients. The reason for which also became clear as we got to know them both: they were simply enjoying what they were doing. They also seemed to have a sort of brotherly cohesion between them when working. One seemed to feed off the other and, as a consequence, things just got done. It was settling to observe how their project management experience came into its own when coordinating deliveries and subcontractors with military-like timeliness to prevent any hold-ups in construction. It must be said that the subcontractors themselves were also fantastic and highly professional tradespeople who were seemingly cherry-picked. Throughout the build Ben and Sam always had time for us. They answered our calls, responded to our queries and took the front foot in providing important information quickly. This was a really important thing for us at the time. It seemed to take away any stress that could be attributed to building a home. Towards the end of the build when the smaller details started to matter, Ben and Sam's enthusiasm seemed to grow further. I then learned how fastidious they both were. Nothing would just do to either of them. It must also be said that we inadvertently gave them challenges during this period. Not being very experienced with building ourselves, we made a few planning mistakes with how things were going to be fitted-out. Whenever we made suggestions to Ben and Sam about how we might like to make certain changes, they were always received with a smile, followed by a positive discussion about how the job was going to get done. As a side, it was amusing to note the same pattern of communication in such a circumstance. After establishing what it was that we had in mind, the brothers would talk amongst themselves in a way only close siblings would comprehend with the appropriate amount of bickering, then relay the decided-upon plan of action in layman's terms to us. Now that that VAND Builders have given us our dream family home and all is said and done, we find that they are still there for us. There is no temporal line in the sand with VAND. We get phone calls from Ben to make sure we are happy and that everything is working well. If anything needs to be addressed, he makes it a priority to do so and does. In summary, all we can say is that we have had a wonderful experience in building with VAND Builders and cannot recommend the company highly enough.
