Bathroom Renovation - HELP!
Comments (10)Before falling in love with some beautiful bathroom photography you really need to take a step back and think about the day-to-day practicalities and your budget. Is this the only bathroom in the house, or is there an ensuite? Is there a separate toilet, or do you need a toilet in the bathroom? Do you have young kids who need to be bathed? Do you need a bath in this room, or is there another one in the house? As an adult do you like to have a long soak in a big bath, or do you always have showers? Do you need bathroom storage for make-up, towels or toilet rolls? The answers to these questions will help you decide on the right fittings for your new bathroom. Many people would prefer to have a larger shower and a smaller bath, but it depends on your household and preferences. The shower over bath is not a good option if you are a regular shower user, but not a regular bath user. It is also quite difficult to bath a toddler safely with a fixed screen in the shower over bath situation. Many people who love the look of the walk in shower with no door, such as in your first photo, end up hating them when they start using them. If not carefully designed and built they can swamp the bathroom everytime the shower is used, so do your research. Your bathroom is also too small to have a freestanding bath (as in the first photo) as you won't have enough room around the back and sides to clean the floor properly. You are better off with a bath built into a bath hob which is in the second photo. Comments (5)Yes thank you for your thoughts. the room is 2.8 (with window) vs 3.4m. I do find it a bit annoying too as I don't like that you open the door and see straight away into the shower (though I'm certain the door would have a lock). I'm sure they lined the bath up to be with the window as visually that looks better, but then I find the space at the end annoying. I like the alternative drawings (I like three of them lots!) and I had been considering an drop in bath built wall to wall rather than a freestanding but also finding it frustrating to find a really nice supportive bath and there are less drop in baths than freestanding around at the moment which is a bit annoying. Thanks Anna for the picture, that helps as that looks good (though we would have more space at either end, 50cm) and I prefer the look of yours with some space but not as cavenous... I think I might have to have a talk with my husband as we really need to work out what to do!!...See MoreWhere should we put the toilet in this small bathroom?
Comments (65)Hi AndrewJason, I love cavity sliders. they are there when you want them but not visible when you need the space open. Having said that they cost more, take a bit of wreckage to set up and in you WA case you will be wrecking brick walls to put them in which might be a stretch of mess too far. BUT you will need to weigh up if they are worth it in the end. I do not think the build will be too bulky in the kitchen/dining because it will be superbly practical on both sides and it maybe just a matter of what you are used to. Not sure about "Average Joe...…" we are all good at somethings, mine is plans, function, practicality, solar. Yours might be brain surgery, empathy for unwell folks, kinda or you make the best seafood lasagne in the world... we are all needed to make for a great world: and it really is that!!! Good luck with your splendid home: I think it is beautiful. And PS if you do make the best seafood anything I better have your address....!!!!!!! MK...See MoreBathroom Renovation Please Help.
Comments (46)Thanks so much Margot, SiriusKey and OkLouise for your help and great ideas. I cannot thank you enough for all your ideas and expertise. After hearing all your feedback and ideas I saw this bathroom when watching a re-run of house rules. It is the charity house main bathroom. It seems to be a similar shape and size to ours. If we move the door as suggested when can do this bathroom I think. It will allow us to have a bath and shower and larger vanity with 2 sinks. While I adore the bath shower at the end of the room SiriusKey while we only have one bathroom in the house for the moment we need 2 options for bathing / showering. They are often used at the same time with the moment. Thought you might like to see the pictures of what I am currently thinking for our bathroom reno. While I love your ideas for creating an ensuite in the current bathroom and moving the bathroom across a bit. This is probably too bigger renovation for our current situation. Sorry for the delay in getting this to you. I have had a sick 9 mo who only wanted cuddles. Not much time for anything else with 2 others to also look after! Best wishes to you all and thanks again for all your comments and feedback. It has helped me immensely....See MoreJoanna Kitto
