Hi helendyjak, New colour for 2017? Trends are interesting. I encourage clients to chose colours they love and then I specify a range of those colours to match their space. Trends are great but if you follow trends when painting spaces they will also date quickly and in architecture that can become very costly and wasteful. Now having said that; trends - to answer your question... spaces are filling up with teal (more last year) and shades of green with links back to art deco. Your comments on colour making space smaller are interesting. Did you experience that? I like to get people to start using colour in small transitional spaces so they experiences how it makes a space feel more intimate and makes all the items in that space "pop". It might make the space feel smaller (this is very subjective as bold colour tends to be) the room is still physically the same size but it might have more personality with the bold colour (again subjective.... :) Thanks for the input. I agree but my comment means that my opinion is that colour and the way to find out would be as you say in person at a paint store but I reiterate that I have a very trained eye for colour and can only go by the sample above the rest is up to the home owner.

Thanks for the photo's it really show's what should be painted with what, just by looking at the first photo looking towards the stairs, the painted bulk head would really bring the ceiling down and then again the second with the bulk head above the external door, wall colour is the right choice for me. cheers

Your floor and other wall colours are great but Red (orange), black and white are very harsh together, the wall cabinets either side of the range hood have been badly installed, they should have been built to the ceiling. My suggestion is because the kitchen is small, I would remove the cabinets either side of the range hood and then run a row of white cabinets across above the sink to the end of the bench top. Paint the walls white or a soft grey, the range then becomes a stand alone feature. You didn't mention what the splash back material is but I would consider a clear mirror splash back along behind the sink and up to the base of the new white cabinets so that you're not just looking at a wall. cheers
