hi Liz, my friend said her builder got it for her from ebay, it was free delivery also, he installed it into a unit that she sold, he waterproofed everything and then used black perspex floor to ceiling in the small bathroom and it looked fabulous, the people who bought the unit were thrilled with the look and even let her know how cleaning was a breeze.so happiness all around.

It actually looks like it was designed for a shower screen that was never installed, maybe because they ran out of money towards the end of the job? Frameless shower screens look fantastic when you can afford to put one in when you are renovating or building a new bathroom. Usually frameless shower screens have their anchoring points or recessed channels installed before tiling. It is actually quite tricky to retrofit a frameless shower screen neatly where there are existing tiles as the junction between the two materials needs to be watertight, and there may be uneveness in the tiles. You don't want to penetrate the waterproof membrane that is under the tiles with a retrofitted fixing for a frameless shower screen. I would suggest a semi-frameless screen which has a steel channel at the junction between the glass and the tiles which will be easier to keep clean, provide better support for the glass, and not be reliant on a silicone bead (which often goes mouldy in a shower recess). I would not have it longer than a metre as you will need at least 600mm clear to access the toilet. Extend it to the ceiling (see photo above) for better rigidity. Hi Di, The glass can be kept clean for longer by wiping down the glass with a window wiper after use as it removes the calcium deposit in the water left on the screen. When it comes to cleaning It is no different to cleaning the tiles simply mist the shower tiles and glass panel with pure, undiluted white vinegar. Let the white vinegar sit on the calcium deposits for 15 minutes clean with a sponge and rinse with water. A glass panel will give the appearance the room is much larger then it is whereas if you enclose the shower area with a tiled wall this will close the room off and can make the shower area closed off and in some cases dark and poorly vented leading it the get mould easier. My Opinion would be to go with a glass panel. Hope this helps with your decision making

Precisely why I struggle to understand why on earth people persist in designing showers with lots of glass around them, when simply allowing a tiny bit more space to make an alcove shower (or creating a wet room) eliminates the need for glass completely and makes cleaning a dream. Who wants to get out of the shower all fresh and ready to dress for an outing but have to get sweaty again squeegeeing the shower? it's nuts! The house we purchased has two huge showers fully enclosed with glass and i can't wait to replace it with Wetwall sheeting that eliminates both tedious glass cleaning and grubby grout. Hopefully the new design will incorporate a solid stone base also, to eliminate grubby grout lines on the floor. Smart designers can prioritize easy cleaning when designing a bathroom and still make it gorgeous. But far too many builders stick with the conventional and don't think about maintenance at all.
