I need help sorting out my garage! It's such a mess
Comments (6)I'd do a project like this over 2 weekends. Purge the first weekend then you will know exactly what is left and work out what you need for storage. Sometimes when you buy storage first you find afterwards it isn't suitable for your needs in the end. Certainly the ideas already suggested are great. Don't forget to allow for future storage as well....See MoreAdvice on awnings and facelift for our 1980s brick house
Comments (6)Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Thanks for the tip, Timandra Design & Landscaping, about avoiding stark white. That's a very neat finish on your windows, Melodie, but we have too many windows to consider changing the frames. Karen, painting the frames is not realistic for us, but thanks for the tip about Scyon Linea. I'd not heard of it before but it looks very interesting. Sharon, I'm fairly keen on some external window shading because we live in Brisbane and it makes a big difference to the heat in those areas. I like your idea of a solid grey awning, though, and agree that it might lift the '80s image into something more modern....See MoreFacelift for a 70's colonial
Comments (16)Hi guys.... Thanks for all comments! The colonial windows are timber so difficult to change without huge expense. There is also lace work on the verandah and balcony, And decorative octagonal window difficult to see in the photo. The front doors are traditional with etched glass inserts. We have formal and informal areas in the house - the front rooms have antiques etc. so more traditional formal areas but rear family and kitchens, and outdoors is more contemporary. We kind of like the gracious look of the house so don't want to screw it up with a bad "try hard" render - plenty of these around. What we are trying to achieve is staying true to the original feel but with some freshening up, and making the most of its street presence. The house is really solid - it was the builders own home when built in 1978....See MoreUgly duckling needs a facelift
Comments (15)Have you considered cover over the quoins with a grey stone or concrete cladding quoin? Not sure where you are but Gosford quarries has some good products. The grey stone would suit the charcoal you have painted the balcony but also work with your other bricks, match the mortar colour and match the roof. I actually like quoins on houses but agree the red colour of yours is not the prettiest example Ive seen....See MoreChris Price
