I hired a storage space (c 2,5 cubic m) when we were putting our house on the market. I needed to make the house look better, and I also needed to start the packing process. Because it was 20 km away, I thought long and hard about everything that went into that space, as compared to what I could donate, sell or trash. Amazing how much stuff is around, but not important at all. Let's just say that I got rid of more than I stored. And since we moved into our new house, I've eliminated another few car boot loads. My motto: if it isn't important enough to be in your house, in use or on display, it sure isn't important enough to spend money storing it.

I would relocate the bedhead to a different wall. Divide the long study room into three roughly equal rooms. Close off the existing door to the study, and make a new wide opening from the bedroom into the new centre room. The centre room becomes like a study alcove off the bedroom, with a desk against the external wall, whihc is opposite the opening to the new opening to the bedroom. On all the original plan, dreamer’s and Oklouise’s you could decrease the space on the interior of the L and add a bank of storage backing onto the L and opening into the bedroom.

You’re not gaining enough in storage or an increase in house value to make moving walls a justifiable expense. Take off the current wardrobe doors and strip out old fittings, use pre-made new fittings from ikea/Bunnings/fantastic furniture to add a hanging rail and shelves and then add new doors. If you need additional wardrobe space for your main room, use some of the suggestions above to add additional storage- which may not need to be hanging depth if you maintain hanging in the existing.
