No worries. It does best in the southern states, not a fan of humidity, and moist well drained soil suits it best. Slow growing until it reaches about 90cm then can grow about a metre plus a year. Full sun but probably best part sun for WA high temps. Salty winds will kill them (no matter what you might read!) Normally grow to around 3m but I've seen one south of Sydney 10m tall. They're so tactile and soft.
Thank you for the info. We're not right on the beach and are a bit protected so that should be fine. They do look lovely and soft and I love the lime colour! We're building on a 1600sqm block and there is one side where we need a bit of a screen as we're down the bottom of a small hill so these might work nicely. I was thinking of Magnolia Teddy Bear as I'd like evergreen for that spot. Either might work well. I'll also be planting some Prunus's (Oakville Crimson Spire) around the place so the lime colour would work nicely as a contrast :-)
Google Elaeocarpus eumundii- great fid screening and gorgeous red/russet new growth and a native alternative to magnolia (and grows faster too-teddy bear pretty slow)
