Cost Estimates for custom built cabinets
Comments (4)Congratulations on your move! Cost for buying custom cabinets is like buying a car... they can all get you from point A to point B, but can vastly range in price. You will need to provide more information to be able to provide a cost estimate. But to give you some tips... Design choices that effect the price are: SIZE: Obviously, the size of the unit effects the price. 2) FINISHES: Two pack is dearest, single pack next, timber veneer next and laminate the cheapest. On an entertainment unit single pack is acceptable unless you want high gloss, which is only achievable in two pack. Finish will change the price by approx 15%. 3) FUNCTION: Drawers are the most expensive component of a unit. Whilst a bank of 3 drawers may cost $600, a door covering the same space can be $150. So if you decide to have 2 banks of drawers instead of 2 doors, the price difference can be around $900. 4) STYLE: Clean contemporary style costs less than period style because of less detail in the manufacture. So when getting a unit designed, have a photo of the wall, a floor plan of the space with dimensions and ceiling height, size of television, amount of equipment required to be stored or any other functional requirements, and style of the apartment. This will provide enough information to get something designed. Better still, get a designer / maker out to give you an onsite consultation and they can draw all this information together for you and provide a concept and price. Hope this helps, Regards Mark Wang Designs Australia...See MoreReplace doors / drawers on floating vanity?
Comments (9)Thanks everyone! We will live it with now. @ cloudpants and suzineedsahouse - The ideas about putting something on the bench to distract the eye is a good idea. Maybe a nice plant? @ Elements at Home - That's an awesome idea. One big door on heavy duty hinges. We'll use the drawers mostly, so we won't be opening and closing them often. I'll definitely investigate that option further. @ dohraine - Only one drawing out of the 60 or so drawings showed the position of the taps in correlation to the doors. But, on paper the difference really wasn't that noticeable. The bench is Caesarstone. The pictures are a week or two old so the filing is all complete now (or it should be, I haven't seen photos of the interior in a while). I'm not sure just replacing the Caesarstone and sinks is a viable option....See MoreBefore and after shots of an existing kitchen that became open plan
Comments (10)I love what you have done here - so much brighter and more connected. Your kitchen layout actually looks very similar to ours, which is currently a U-shaped enclosed kitchen we are thinking of opening up as you did. Can I just ask you - where do you store your food? My concern has been the lack of a full height pantry area if we make the wall opposite the sink a breakfast bar as you have. Love your work!...See MoreHelp with kitchen layout required
Comments (20)Hello. All ideas practical and an appliance cupboard is a must if you had in your previous house as demonstrated by previous comments. Microwave and mixers all away. A sliding door to pantry easy solution. Even one with timber frame (raw or painted depending on your finishes) and opaque glass is great as well. Not compromising on island bench is good. It is best to have drawers on both sides. Depending on your seating or not you can also re configure drawer at end but also keeping in mind power points are a must with an island bench. If you are of average height wall ovens great but not always suitable for someone who is below average height. I have an island bench without a sink which works really well, drawers each side and 2 stools at one end for my needs. The rubbish/recycle bin is a pull out dedicated drawer which is also practical. Sink and stove at the back. Make sure you get a good cabinet maker as well and decide everything beforehand....See MoreVicki Denson
