Renovating ex housing commission house. Adding some character
Comments (104)Hello Fianou, Congratulations on your charming home. I think it has so much potential. I love the idea of teal, it is fresh and welcoming. I was thinking to give the home some street appeal and to also make it extremely functional. I would see if you could afford to put a wonderful wooden deck out the front, and then I would have window shutters painted teal placed on either side of the windows to give it street appeal, if you could afford to paint the brick I would paint it in a happier white tone with the blue accessory trim on the shutters on each window and also on the roof trim to tie it all in. On the deck I would have flower boxes painted in the same teal colour or whatever colour you choose to link in the whole story. I can see it can be so sweet and charming and a real place to call home. The timber fence at the side would also link in with the decking at the front. Good luck and congratulations on buying your own home ! Woo hoo !...See More5m wide character house in Brisbane?
Comments (2)I would seek out a local architect/building designer/good draftsman. There's a lot going on with what you're aiming for. You will need someone with in-depth knowledge of that area. There's a lot of calculations and investigating to be made before anything. Apart from what you've mentioned, sewerage and storm water and a detailed site survey with the soil testing are needed. I'd also guess there are height restrictions to boot....... Keep us posted though as this will be a very interesting project....See MoreBuilding designer or architect?
Comments (1)Hi there - we used a building designer to design our last house and were really happy with the result - took us all the way from brief to planning to liaising with our builder and checking on site to ensure the house was built to spec. Building designers are well qualified from what I understand of the course they do. I think ultimately how creative and solution inspired they are is what matters. You can pay for a pedestrian architect or out of the box building designer or the other way around. I imagine it depends on the creativity of the individual rather than the piece of paper they have so it might be best to go with recommendations first and then meet a few to see how you feel about working with them....See MoreA Home With Character in Narrandera
Comments (10)I'll be the toned down person . The 'outside' is brilliant -- the corten , the angles , the wooden poles , it adds to everything ! Even the kitchen is a step above a lot -- it has style and texture and a variety of colours and materials , and I love the wooden light and breakfast bar 'cap' and table . Then there is the pool shots , and that side of the house looks like a school building . You can call it trendy or industrial or whatever you like , but seriously , you couldn't have spent $50k more and added a variety of materials and tones and 2 or 3 'juts' in the walls ? Okay , I am probably weird , and own some commercial buildings , and I go out of my way to add some style and character to them , using all the tricks you've used on the other side -- even commercial buildings shouldn't be square concrete boxes IMO , and yet you do exactly that to a high end house ? Each to their own , but I'd have more 'fun' on that side if that was me ....See MoreUser
