What can I do with these dark walls? Paint white?????
Comments (24)Hi Maria, we love the wood but it is a little overwhelming in that space with the timber floor. A liming white is a great idea as mentioned by a few people here. This will let you have the best of both worlds, a lighter, brighter finish while still allowing the wood grain to show through. You could try Feast Watson Liming White Floor Finish (yes, it's not a floor but it has the size of a floor!) and build up the number of coats until you are happy with the amount of timber grain showing through. You'll probably need to give it a light sand first as it's most likely already got some type of coating on it. The other option would be to leave the walls as is and consider a large, light neutral coloured rug as pompom suggested on the timber floor and perhaps a good sized piece of art on the wall or white wall shelving instead of the dark side unit you have to reduce the amount of timber in the room....See MoreHelp! What to do with my blank walls?
Comments (27)Love your house! How quirky are you? I love houses that reflect people's personality and souls and don't just look like pretty pictures from a magazine. I also think it is cool when people use 'found objects' to create a look. Wallpaper? Can be expensive and in your face. Vertical gardens? Require maintenance, water and light. Can get messy. Purchased art work? Can be pricey. Do you know anyone who works in a cinema or are you good at chatting people up? Ask if you can have one of their life-sized cardboard standup adverts for a movie (one you like, of course) and put it on the narrow wall in the kitchen! For example. Easily changed when you get tired of it....See MoreWhat colour should I paint my house?
Comments (34)Dear Creatively Challenged , I can recommend Dulux Colour Consultants, I gave up after about 5 sample pots . At the time it cost me $150 and if I used dulux paints I could claim a full refund . That was 12 years ago . I didn’t realise at the time just how good they were , the colours are still in fashion but it’s ready for another paint job for sure. It was such a relief to have someone in who is trained and fully understands colours and fashion and what goes with what . I finally stopped stressing about it and got the job done ✅...See MoreHow do you remove an old oven built into wall?
Comments (5)you will be able to find out whats behind the wall by first going into the room next door to see see if there's a recess from the other side and/or going up inside the roof space to look down from above to check if the walls around the oven are supporting the roof or hiding a chimney or some other mystery but if the house is not very old it's probably just a timber framed section with the oven installed into the space instead of the more standard technique of installing the oven into a kitchen cabinet..but, after an electrician has removed the old oven it's quite simple to remove the old plasterboard and the framing if it's not supporting any roof and then the gap in the wall and ceiling can be easily repaired by a plasterer and painted ready for a new kitchen...BUT it's never a good idea to rip out anything until you have a clear plan of exactly what you want to do and the new kitchen cabinets, plumber and electrician are all ready for installation and that's probably better left until you live in a house for a while...See Morehavingfun
