Well, having just gone through the trauma of choosing a new fridge for a new kitchen I can tell you this: the standard kitchen allowance for a fridge is 1000mm (one meter). Unless you are buying side by side units, most refrigerators are a standard size - including double door fridges. I found out it costs about an extra $1000 for water and ice, and whilst not all of the water/ice ones require plumbing, the better ones do. If you find a fridge you like, check the websites and price match. I got $700 off mine when my retailer price matched an online store. I have also bought appliances on the online stores with absolutely no issues, if that's an option for you. At the end of the day I chose the SMEG four door fridge which I like because the freezer doesn't have big deep drawers which I would lose stuff in! Plus I like the clean lines, and SMEG has a good reputation and good after sales service. Hope some of that helps! Good luck!!

I bought a Mitsubishi 655L multi drawer fridge.... absolutely fantastic, had it nearly 12 months. I spent months researching as its my first fridge in over 20+ years, I wanted to get my choice right. It's so quiet. 5 year warranty on parts and labour. Was the only brand I could find that had the least, read hardly any, negative reviews. Not cheap, made in Japan but wrangled a good deal. They are taller and deeper than most fridges but not wider, an issue affecting people relocating these days. They do make a few different styles so check them out.

Refer to your fridge specs before you close anything in. Fair Trading laws in this country have obsoleted warranties. There is now a sliding scale of reasonable expectation on consumer items which means manufacturers will rely on their tech specs more than ever. Check what minimum clearance your fridge officially needs on the sides and above the machine for ventilation before doing anything. Get your lighting working for you. Choose a 'warm white' lamp - not daylight or cool white. Cool whites kill off the warmer hues and makes things appear cold. Change, add or move your lighting to have two small gimbled ceiling lights wash down the face of the joinery instead of one bright light focussed on the fridge. Lighting can make a poor space look great or a great space look poor.

No.1 would have to be solar panels to pay for the cost of running all these new toys. Luke, seriously, we all claim to be green these days and are concerned about our planet and the environment but have we really stopped to think how "green" these toys are? We are becoming like kids at Christmas with them. These toys are all predominantly plastic, just like kids toys, they break we throw away except with adult toys their shelf life is as long as it takes for the next bigger and better model to come out. Emphasis these days is all about making our lives easier but all these labour saving devices are not making things easy for our environment. It is almost a joke that a plastic water bottle takes twice as much water to make than the liquid it holds. We are all proud of ourselves when we recycle but how many of us have actually followed what really happens with our recycling - how much energy and water is required in the recycling process, how much of it is actually reused? We are recycling more product than we have use for - what happens to the excess?? The more of these toys that keep coming, the more excess waste we will have.
