Hi,

From your plan it is difficult to see how everything relates so I'm not sure if this will work.

Take the wall you have between the pantry and laundry right across creating a separate pantry and put a laundry door opening into the family room side.

The pantry can then have a 200 shelf along the rear wall and a 450 or 600 shelf on the left side to bench height and narrow shelves over.

If that does not work for you- remove one of your 200 shelves as 550 is too narrow. You could also remove the stud wall between the pantry and laundry and replace with a 40mm partition. Your cabinet maker can do this.

For a workable pantry a few different depth shelves. Think about the type of things you buy and need to store how wide and deep are they? Things get lost in deep shelves especially tins and jars. Adjustable shelves give the option of having more shelves and no wasted space above the items.

Do you need to walk in from the kitchen to the laundry as it has the other entry door?

I would look at dividing the laundry room in two with all pantry behind microwave cbd but much bigger pantry space and walk in. Depends on the room next to this of course

Curious if you follow this option and moved the second freezer into pantry (still lots of room), moved the main fridge to the left & shuffle the bench space to accommodate the microwave and appliances on either this or the pantry end in a larger area maybe taking doors down to bench height to hide the appliances you use frequently plugged in ready to go.

Narrow shelves are great! if you can have plenty of them..have you thought of pull outs? I ripped my pantry out as I was to short to see the top shelves and the deep shelves had turned into hiding places for bean tins! I installed a couple of these and didn't look back! Oh yes the bulk freezer thats in the shed/garage

You do tart these up with your own panels and can put cupboards over for those unused dishes and so on.

Thank you for all your suggestions. I'm trying to upload complete floor plan but doesn't seem to work on mac at home... will upload tomorrow. Not sure having laundry door into family will work as that's not a massive space and wall was to be lined with storage. The other door from the laundry is to outside. I will play with moving 2nd freezer and other stuff along.... I had explored that but will have another look :-)

I like your floor plan, two studies is great but if you want that walk in pantry... I would rethink the family study (is sharing it with the laundry an option?) and pinch the space you need. Kitchen function is So important and yours is already looking on the road to great functionality.

Many thanks Louise. Hubby works from home and I can't stand his mess hence he gets a whole study to himself! It was my number 1 when looking for a new house last year!! Out the back (west facing) of the family room and family study we have a great garden, so trying to maximise windows/views/access to there too. I think your idea of mucking around with the kitchen/laundry/family study has legs though... I'll have a play. Thanks again

Louise, I love the door idea on that appliance cupboard pic you shared - that has been a dilemma too so thank you. How wide do you reckon that appliance cabinet is?

I'm looking at the second freezer position in my plan - I put it there cuz I reckon it's the siberia end of the kitchen and it will be a pain if the main fridge is all the way up there.... Plus it doesn't take up precious room in a walk in pantry (need room for door to open too). At the moment the back wall is symmetrical hence why the appliance cupboard is a strange 832 wide!

Good news is I've minimised (even further!) what's going to be in the laundry (that will be like a cupboard now, but hey a compromise to get a decent pantry) as walk in pantry is much higher priority, so I think I have lots of room for a decent pantry - will post pic once I've drawn it :-)

Thanks everyone. I've really rationalised what's in the laundry - that's like a cupboard now! It's a compromise we can live with to get a decent walk in pantry. And drawn inspiration from your advice/ideas and a couple of pics. The rest of that wall stays the same as previous post - we don't have anywhere else to put extra freezer!

I'm thinking of having the doors of the appliance cupboard flush with the front cabinetry so no benchtop will be seen when they're closed - to maintain symmetry of that back wall. Or will I appreciated a bit of bench space in front of the appliance cupboard and the symmetry won't be that out...?

Clare, can you put the microwave under the island bench to free up room in the appliance cupboard & I would have a bench in there like my previous photo (I don't know dimensions but around 800 mm would be good) .
