Comments (6)That's a lovely home. I agree with the thread, working on one project at a time works for me too. And there's so much great advice on Houzz that helps. Here's one if you're using a builder for the renovation: https://www.houzz.com.au/magazine/10-things-to-ask-your-builder-before-your-reno-starts-stsetivw-vs~27072216 if you're hiring an interior designer: https://www.houzz.com.au/magazine/how-to-present-your-design-ideas-to-an-interior-designer-stsetivw-vs~28888655 and if you're doing it yourself - https://www.houzz.com.au/magazine/8-popular-decorating-styles-and-how-to-bring-them-home-stsetivw-vs~31606209 Happy decorating!...See MoreNeed original floorplan for 1920s bungalow
Comments (11)Hi, I have a old house that was stripped back. I found a lot of clues to the original placement of rooms and uses from the house itself. But some general factors to consider: kitchens out the back of the house. Usually with a chimney tucked into a external wall corner. Not one of the angled fireplaces. The kitchens can be quite small, depending on your house size of course. Backyard loo until, maybe the '50s. Then often added onto the rear of the house, off the sunroom. Rooms uses can change, but generally on a wider facade, a parlour at the front of the house, and bedrooms at front and moving down the hallway. Clues I found in my house: in the right light I could see slight ridges in walls, indicating closed in doorways and wall removals. I also noticed a line up the wall in a back room, a neighbour confirmed there was a angled fireplace there. Outside, old concrete steps and odd windows above, indicated there was another street entrance. Pulled up the carpet and discovered a few hearths. Lastly, maybe a longtime neighbour might know more about the house. Or like me you will find your house's twin a few streets away. Have fun discovering more about your house!...See MoreFlooring Dilemma
Comments (28)Hello, annb! No, not really :-( It will be part of a mini reno later this year, so I still have time up my sleeve. So many of the decisions (like flooring, paint colours, finishes etc) have a knock-on effect, that I need to decide on everything before I start. I think I need to get a cork flooring expert to come and look at our floors and tell me what is and isn't possible in terms of changing the colour of the existing floors. I still think Smartstrand carpet will be the choice for the carpeted areas. But who knows.....I'm feeling quite paralysed to the point of losing confidence about changing anything. I might need a professional to help me decide !...See MoreBathroom layout 3m ceilings - 2 options - resolve finishes
Comments (53)Hi dreamer, thanks for the suggestion. Im wondering though, how do I treat the junction between the vanity and the fixed panel of the shower screen? The diagram I uploaded above leaves out the shower head, so there will in fact be a shower-over-bath in the above scenario, with a fixed panel adjacent the bath. If I have the vanity hard up against the bath, I'll need to tile the side of the vanity, no?...See MoreLinda Mayo
