Need help updating look of home without painting wooden trims
Comments (40)Hello kellyi. The living room needs straight, long drapes in a simple pattern, I think. No swags, no tie-backs, no extra anything. I'd look for something with a light, off-white background as the room is a bit heavy with brown, and perhaps a geometric pattern that introduces your favourite colour. It could happily be green, but the room is so neutral it could be anything. Pick up that colour in a couple of throw pillows, which could also be patterned, or plain. On the lighting I think you could probably get better advice from someone else. But I'd also like to suggest big art for your fireplace to hang just a few inches above the mantlepiece. Again something modern, light and bright. Preferably with a touch of brown in it but other colours predominating -- including the curtain colour. I think these are both charming and cheerful, but of course nothing is more about your personal taste than choosing a painting. These are on etsy.com, in the landscapes section....See MoreHELP! Comments (9)Hi colourgirl3, You have good bones to work with there. I would caution against a dark colour roof - maybe Colorbond Gull grey instead. Often you can get good articulation with dark colours for gutters (charcoal) and lighter colour for fascia boards (Gull grey) and a darker grey for timber posts and features (Dulux 'Asteroid'). Greys will work with your existing face brickwork and window colours. If in doubt go to your local paint centre with a digital pic of the house and see if you can get them to give you some suggestions on their computer program or do it yourself by downloading one from a paint website....See MoreRed brick veneer needs an update. Comments (10)I agree that charcoal would be nice - softer than black Just check that it has a greenish base, as that will work with Woodland grey Use a coppery colour for the front door and follow the theme by using rusted metal pots and mail box, as julie herbert suggested Pebblecrete for the pathways will complete the theme of natural materials, then give the garden some personality by contouring beds and mulching with pebbles and stones in the grey, brown and black colours of the building Perhaps a winding path to the front door Use Woodland grey for the new garage door If you really want to change the roof tiles, make them a greenish grey too With medium sized shrubs - magnolia, camellia, mock orange as well as soft grasses, the garden will finish the project nicely You don't have to do it all at once - it's nice to let the process evolve as you develop confidence Have fun and let us know what you decide...See Moredecorating needs an update
Comments (8)what great looking rooms and love Dad's sideboard... try swapping the lounge with the two chairs..the lounge looks too squeezed into that space and a bigger coffee table in front of the lounges with one of Julies' suggested lighter coloured textured rugs and could the mirror be relocated on a wall opposite the window and have an artwork or wall hanging similar to the gorgeous Klimpt that would add some colour that could be highlighted with cushions...See Morewuff
