I have had white plantation shutters right through my house for about 8 years. They look beautiful and are easy upkeep. Living on the Gold Coast they have that beautiful summery look and mix with any style of furnishings. If I had my choice again, I would not put them in the master bedroom - they let in quite a lot of light in the gaps on the side and top. It gets so light here so early in summer. I need blackout blinds. I have combatted the problem by wearing a sleep mask. It doesn't worry my husband !

I've had painted basswood shutters on my whole house for about nine years. Most are still fine but the two bedrooms towards the hotter Western side of the house have warped with age. My Mum has recently installed polymer shutters and they had a weird chemical smell for a couple of weeks but that soon went away and they essentially look the same as mine.

Assuming the laminate is lighter in colour , I don't think it would matter . Actually , even a darker or a redder timber laminate shouldn't 'clash' , but actually complement . Unless it was that cheap plasticy looking stuff , but then you will get what you deserve ! Imagine if the floor was dark or white tiles , wooden windows would look great . Same with most colour carpet . And even most modern patterns of lino , so timber laminate would be the same IMO , especially with clean white walls .
